'75 308 GT4 (Peter)

I was surprised that one came with my GT4 when I bought it (seeing as everything else was missing. Maybe the owner didn't know how it worked!). Mine plugs into the left-hand side inside the glove box.

I think they put the weird plug on it so it would only go into the special socket. The special socket is "hot" even if the car is off(and that makes it a good map light as well as a trouble light), where the cig lighter is only hot when the car is on. The 328 socket is under the dash on the driver side, easily reachable by the driver (or a passenger that knows the driver very well).

Why didn't Ferrari just put a cig socket end on it instead of some weird plug that won't fit #^@#else and then hide the socket under the dash, in gloveboxes, etc. where no one knows where they are?

Ben -- the TR Emergency Lamp socket is inside the glovebox.

Steve,

right you are again!!! (next time I'll look before I leap) my 40179202 looks very similar to the one on ebay. My Cig plug in too narrow to fit into my lighter socket properly (see the one on ebay to understand), and therefore won't light up, is there somewhere else it should plug into (before I cut the end off to put a proper cig plug on it)?

Ben -- the TR "Emergency lampe [sic] In the glove box" 40179202 is part of the Emergency Tool Kit 128594 not the Tool Kit 123254 (at least that's what it shows in the TR SPC).

Mitchel -- I must disagree with your wheel strategy -- taken to the extreme, you'd find a nice Porsche and "store" the whole car! Additionally, the stock 308 F wheels are a more advanced design (Magnesium alloy) than any aftermarket (Aluminum alloy) wheel that you'll find -- not that you'd really notice a performance difference, but it's just one of those special things about 308s that always brought me a little smile inside (In a way, it's a shame that all the more recent Fs have such large positive wheel offsets that they need the stiffness/strength of an Aluminum alloy). I just had my TR wheels refinished for about $100 each, and am very, very pleased with the results so the $ risk to getting a few wheel nicks/scrapes is not that high IMHO (but whatever floats your boat...).

Hmm, I wonder if that extension light for that 87 328 is a direct replacement for the light that is missing from my 84 308. The plugs look similar.

Hey Tom, no my wheels are not bent at all, but the paint is chipped on the edge of the right rear. Instead of beating the factory 16s up anymore, I'd like to have them restored and stored and if I can find a nice set of BBSs or something, I'll put em on!

I'm going to call Stebro and T Rutlands today to see about my top latch and some test pipes.

Better hurry.... You only have one day left to bid on the light!

I believe the light was an "accessory item" of some kind on my TR as it's not listed in the tool kit contents IIRC, I picked one up from a guy who has about a dozen of them. They are out there. Call Nick for your test pipes.

Wow.
Good luck with the extension light. I was surprised to find out how many people, included concours judges that didn't know their cars came with this. I helped a guy hunt one down at the FCA Annual 2 weeks ago. Most people I asked had no idea what I was talking about or they knew about it and thought it was supposed to plug in the cigarette lighter. No one knew about the special plug for it under the dash, including one judge who owned a 308. I have mine but the clear plastic lens is missing.

How many people reading this now didn't know this either?

For the test pipe call Stebro 1-888-8stebro. They made mine out of stainless steel. The service was outstanding. When I called them, they were out of stock but when they found out that I wanted it for a track meet at Road Atlanta that weekend someone there actually stayed late to finish one just for me and overnighted it to me. How about that?
You'll have to get your Tubi thru an authorized distributor like T. Rutlands in Atlanta. They can get your top latch for you too.
What do you mean,"...possibly some wheels too" ?
Are yours bent?

Hi all, I need some test pipes or a Tubi for my 84 308 QV. I also need the contents of the owners pouch. I only have the owners manual, warranty book and dealer network book. I think I need 2 lube charts and some other owners literature. I also am looking to complete my jack bag, I need the extension light that came in the bag.
I also need the drivers side GTS top latch that goes right above your head and holds the top down. My driver side latch is broken. And possibly some wheels too. Thank you all very much!
