Jim, I just received a blank folding ignition key which I purchased from Mitch DeFrancis. That key is not available from Ferrari, and is not easy to find, so I have to thank him again for seeing my original posting and responding. Im lucky that he had one, and was willing to sell. He has true passion for the marque, and is willing to help a fellow owner out! Regarding the door/glovebox key, mine is all metal (no plastic at all). Your car was manufactured a year later than mine, so maybe that explains the change. |

My 328 was made in Oct 86 and has the folding key. My door/glovebox key is solid, but has a nice little black plastic prancing horse around the end. |

You got me there, Lens - my car is US 328 manufactured in FEB 86. I only have the 535/88 Owners Manual. I have never seen a 85 US Manual and don't know which key is standard for the earlier 328 models. All I know is, that the folding key didn't fit my car and that the F dealer instead got the "stiff" version for me. I believe that the price was around the equivalent of 15 US $. I then had it ground at an ordinary Mister Minit. Maybe my ignition lock was changed at some point in time? The door/gasfiller/glove box keys are solid - no plastic and symmetrically cut. Quite petite key. By the way - do you know of any loose 85 US manuals like yours out there? Maybe a swap with an 88 US manual? Back from vacation by the way. Yukkk - work again. brgds Kurt |

Thanks Joe. Sounds like the ignition key might be the same, but my door/glove box key is all metal; no black plastic at all and thats the way its drawn in the owners manual. |

Hi Kurt, Writing this with my manual in front of me. It says 1986/87 models on the first page; and Printed in Italy - cat. 396/85 - n. 1000 on the inside of the back cover. My car is a very early 328; manufactured in November of 85 and sold in January of 86. Maybe this has something to do with the difference in key style. Is yours a US version? Do you have a fax number? I can send you the illustration. Regards, Len |

Me again - somewhere on the cover (usually the back cover) of your Owners Manual a number is printed. On the 88 manual it says: cat. n. 535/88. This is the number of the publication and the year of issue. It should of course be the same or earlier year than your car. I believe that for the 328 only two manuals were made, one in 85 and one in 88, where ABS comes alive. You might have a 88 manual showing you the new key design. brgds Kurt |

Maybe you have an 88 or later Owners Manual? I am positive that on my FEB 86 328 US model the ignition key is of the old type - the hinged ones has a shorter and "fatter" profile, which won't even go into the lock. My original key have a black plastic grip with a silver horse on one side (the left side when you first put the key into the ignition lock) and no hinge. Sorry for the late response - vacation time, you know. Let me know about your progress. brgds Kurt |

Kurt, Are you sure? The illustration of the ignition/anti-theft key in my owners manual clearly shows a metal hinge. It has what appears to be a black plastic grip with the horse logo on at least one side. The GTB doors and glove box key is all metal. |

Not "locks" - "ignition lock" of course. Door lock keys are completely different. brgds Kurt |

I do believe that the folding keys for the 328 is for later models. I have a '86 and got a folding key by mistake from the dealer - didn't go into the locks, wrong profile. brgds Kurt |

Hey Leonardo, I actually have 1 blank folding Ferrari key, with a Cavallino on each side. I thought the key was for a TR or an F40. I'm not sure if it says Niemann on it or not. I'll find out tonight and let you know via email. |

If you search for Ferrari parts on www.hemmings.com you will find some of these items. I remember seeing the space saver spare recently. The sales brochure can be had from E-Bay or www.ferrariliterature.com |
