Hi Guys,

You may have seen my Sweet Pony die a tragic death, but like the mythological Phoenix my 348 may be offered back to me as part of the insurance settlement.

The body panels (except front lid)and LR suspension are trashed. The engine, transaxle and most of the engine compartment survive intact. see the pix on the Death of a Ferrari thread.

Anyway, here's my thought. If I can find an interested buyer for what survives I could excercise my option to buy it back and be interested in selling it as it sits in my insurance company's recovery lot in San Jose, CA. I do not have the value yet. I wanted to see if anyone is interested.

If you are interested you can e-mail me with a bid or indicated interest.

The car ran very strong, had good maint (I ran Mobil-1) and was completely reliable.

I considered replacing the body panels with Koenig-Special panels/wheels and creating one of these F48's.... Hmmm not a bad thought.

I'd be glad to answer questions in detail. Please only if really interested.

Also, I'm not sure how much time I'll be given to excercise my option.

Hey Martin, I saw this ad in the Ferrari Market Letter:

That's surprising to say the least. I never thought of the 308 engine as being that heavy. I guess a turbo would still be the easiest way, it would be cool though to see a Ferrari 12 under the bonnet.

Far from the truth Bret, in fact, the author of the book states that the V-12 is slightly lighter than the V-8!

With only mild upgrades (higher CR pistons, camshaft regrind, etc...) the choice engine - 365 SOHC V-12 - can easily put out 380 HP. Even in stock form of around 320 HP is a VAST improvement over the stock 308 motor (at best 240 HP).

The best part: Its all Ferrari, has the look and classic sound.

The worst part: costs of welding and machining and parts sourcing will run in the five-figure range. Slapping on a turbo would be much less.

I'll email you Martin.

Yeah I realized that after seeing the site about the 208GT4, I though they only made 2 liter versions of the 308 and 328, not the GT4s.

As far as a track car though, a 12 will be unbalanced to say the least in a 308, compared to an 8. I think a turboed 8 would be the best bet for a well put together car, if you want to just get an acceleration beast go for a Cobra or something easier to do that with. They make some pretty fast turboed 3 liters, I think the driveline can handle about 400hp in a 308 stock.

Peter, No, I do not. Where can I get that?

Bret, yes I talked to Forza, he is the guy also selling the car to me. The 208 was not a misprint. That is a 2L V8 that was only made for the Italian market to conform with taxes that they impose on large engine cars. See also the 208GTS /208GTB, same engine.

Have not been able to contact the other guy yet. I was not sure what engine I wanted. The 308 is a little slow unless you tweek it with a Turbo. Might be better off going into a V12 right away.

Peter,
that book might be the answer.

Did you ever check out those two 308 engines in FML?

Do you have a copy of the David Goldsmith 308 V-12 conversion manual?

For my new project track car I want to drop a V12 into a 308GT4. Should have a Tranny with it but will work with only the engine as well.
Has to be a Ferrari Engine to allow for Club Events.

any V12 or 308, 328, 348 355 Engine.
