Are there K&N filters available for a 92 512TR? |

Ben, Finally put in the K&N Filter. It works!! The first cold start initially scared the crap out of me, never heard so much air gulped by the engine before. Excellent acceleration below 4000 rpms now. The "kick in the pants" hits at 4400 rpms instead of 4750 like before. 5th gear now has punch at 3000 rpms where before it was virtually useless. And the noise -- that is really good -- a nice deeper rumble especially in 5th gear. How does this match up to what you found? Getting addicted to power -- thinking of a Tubi exhaust next. |

5/18 update - FedEx brought me a box today, and guess what I have FILTERS! I've inspected all of them (and their individual boxes), since the box they arrived in looked like it had been handled by the American Tourister Gorilla (the FedEx guy muttered something about US customs). Everything is in good order, and I fit mine in just fine (altho as stated before it is only about half the height of the stock TR filter). I'll be away for most of the weekend so I should be able to send them out Monday 5-21-01. MichaelN and SteveM email me directly so we finish this up: [email protected] -Ben |

May 8 update, I have been emailing with the place that is selling them for about $42 (without shipping). Why pay $80 for the same item? (There were a variety of prices topping out at $80) They have given me a shipping quote for one unit of about $20 and for 5 about $10/per. So we are looking at about $52 delivered to me, I'd say about $60 delivered to everyone (in case I need to box them individually). I told them to get them for me now, and their response is not only does no store/wharehouse stock this rare filter, but K&N has to custom make it for us, hence 3 weeks either way. I have told them to start the ball rolling and do their best to get them to me by June 1-ish. I'll keep everyone posted. -Ben |

Ben: Christiank was correct. We can only get this one in Europe. http://www.ferrariclub.com/faq/knfilter.html This link shows that -- Thanks Steve. So we are back to plan A. Michael |

I am headed to visit the Ferrari homeland and factory the end of this month, I wouldn't have a problem bringing back a batch of these with me(mid June) Any questions anyone would like to have asked/answered? Erik |

OK - Miles are you are gonna look around and see if you can locate them here? I've tried that around my area and the main online K&N mail/catalog places.....nada. James - Let us know what his time to deliver on them would be, he may just be doing what we are (planning on) doing, getting them from overseas. If that's the case it's only great if he has some in stock. I just got a new (stock OEM = UFI?) air filter less than 300 miles ago as part of my service, but I still want to try out the K&N and keep my fresh (stock) one around, to use when I would clean the K&N. That's just me. -Ben |

I had K&N Filter put in my 90 TR, I am not sure where my mechanic got them from, but if you guys want them, I can ask him to order some. I think he charged me $72US or something close to that for them. I can't tell if my baby breathes better, but at least I never have to get another air filter James |

Ben: That sounds good -- May 14. Count me in for two filters. I think Christiank thinks we are funny because he already knew that we could not get the filters in the US. Am I correct, Christiank? Michael |

From K&N USA (paraphrased): "K&N Products are no longer being made in USA. They are moving all manufacturing out of USA as we speak. K&N USA is only a distributor, and they do NOT carry this filter here." This filter is NOT available at any CSK or any speed shop, that I have been into, or contacted. It is also not a K&N USA part number, it's from K&N Europe. If anyone has found a source for them here in the USA, without having to order from overseas, I'd love to hear about it. Let me know, I'll give you a week to find them. If not, how about I do the order May 14 or so? -Ben PS. So I see 2 hands up so far, how many for each? Why are we funny, ChristianK? |

That is a good question -- I will check into this. Thanks for the heads up. Hey Ben: Note the post prior to this one - maybe we can get them here in the US? |

http://www.knfilters.com/ Why are you not simply buying these from CSK auto parts? Aren't these made in the USA anyway? |

Ben: When are you planning on buying these? Hey, I would buy 3 or 4 just to get the order in now. I would keep a spare for me and later if others want one I will sell them. |

and see what happens when I do things from memory, UGH, when I sent out all the emails I DID cut and paste from the other FC msg with the correct part #33-2799. Now that I've mucked it up in this thread, I can't change it. Yes this would be for K&N filter 33-2799. Thanks for the correction folks. The thought is they don't weigh much, FedEx for one would be pretty expensive but on like 5-10 might not be so bad when divided up by # of units, for the overseas part of the trip. Tyring to cut down on the 3 week estimate I got to deliver them to me. -Ben |

Count me in also. I agree the correct part number is 33-2799. See thread -- Performance Upgrades for 328. Christiank has the part number there -- he has one in his car already. |

Ben -- Count me in! (If we can get the per person Fedex costs down -- great, but if not, I'd still be interested in getting one via regular shipping). PS Isn't the correct K&N part number 33-2799? |

Ok I have spent a bit of time researching the availabiliity of this item from various Euro and British sources. I have found them from about $42 to about $80 (converted to USD). This is without shipping. I was thinking to get a few other TR owners out there who may want one to get together a do a group buy. While this may not save us on the part itself I think the cost of FedEx shipping from overseas would then be worth it over regular shipping (which could take weeks). I would then ship them out to each USA buyer. Let me know if you are interested, once I know how many we want and can get an idea of shipping, I can nail down the final delivered (to you) price. -Ben |
