Gentlemen, Thanks for all the sage advice. JRV - great idea - I will disconnect the fuse and report back on the result. But that will have to wait a bit as I'm just about to leve for a week's vacation in Spain followed by a week of work in Nigeria. Andy, yes, there are a lot of stickers and plaques on my car, but they have been really useful in tracking the cars providence. Using leads from these stickers I now know the names of the first two owners and know where the car has been since 1986 (France - USA - Germany - UK). As much as I dislike some of them myself, I'll leave them there for a while! Hans - good advice about searching the archive. I'll pick a few terms from this thread and see what I come up with. James - that's a good lead to follow. I will see if Shelton Sportscars in Ft. Lauderdale have a website and get hold of them. Excellent progress! Gents, if you have any additional thoughts about this thing, I look forward to hearing them! Regards, MARK |

Do an archive search. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I remember that exact same label on such a box being previously referenced. Then again, it could have been the health warning label on a bottle of Bridgeport IPA. |

Mark, My suggestion to you would be to call the boys at Shelton Sportscars in Ft. Lauderdale. They have been in business down there for a long time and I`m sure they have seen this modification before. I am sure they can help you. There # is 954-493-5211 Best regards, Jim |

Your antenna will probably stop going up and down after you disconnect this box. I wouldn't be as much concerned about this box as I would about the number of stickers these clowns pasted all over your car. There are three within the picture you show. I doubt they did any conversion on the expansion tank but two of the stickers or on it. Let us know what happens when you disconnect the fuse. |

What about other "safety" junk that US cars get stuck with. Could it have been added to control seatbelt or brake warning lights etc? |

>>Any idea what would happen if I removed the whole box?<< Depends on if the system is still functional or not. 1- If the system is still operational and in good working order and you unplug it, the engine "should" start to run very poorly. 2- If the system is still operational and not in good working order the engine might start running better. 3- If the system has been disabled and you unplug it, nothing should happen. That inline fuse looks curious..could be the lead that powers the system the box controls. You might try starting the engine and disabling the power source at the inline fuse and see what happens.

The oxy sensors that were mandatory for the Emission Requirement/Lambda Feed Back System required Magic Boxes. There were several different ones used...that looks like it could be one of the variants. |

David, Unfortunately at home I have no way of getting under the car to snoop around so I can't answer that question I'm afraid. As to whether it's receiving power or not, I can't say. I have not fiddled around with it at all at this stage....and have no idea what it does! Mysterious! Cheers, MARK |

Have you traced to where the wires go? That might give you an indication of what it does. Does it do anything right now? That is, is it receiving power, or is the power on the output stage? I see a couple wires unhooked already.... |

Take a look at the silencer on my Euro 328 GTS - see bottom of page at: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/212428.html?1046818004 This was custom crafted in Florida when the car moved to the US for a few years. When the car went to the States I don't believe it had a catalytic converter. In order to comply with US legislation, a custom manufactured silencer with cat-converter was fitted. In the back of the car there's another piece of hardware that appears to be an aftermarket add-on:
Does anyone know what this is?
It was installed by these guys in Fort Lauderdale:
My assumption is that it's related to the silencer & emission control. Please correct me if I'm wrong! If I remove the cat, can I safely remove the white box and all the wiring? Hey - could I safely remove it now leaving the current silencer fitted? I've searched "Tom Clark & Associates" on the internet and only come up with a company in the UK that is clearly incorrect. Does anyone know anything about this company and whether they are still around? Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, MARK
