Greg, I have several books by passini, but the book with the most detail is a haynes book which has a whole chapter on the DCNF. In some of the books it says you need to use a tool to re-cut the seats for the jets etc. This sounds dangerous and some have said not needed I am going to rebuild the carbs but not till after Dec when I have my final smog check!!! :-)))))). Greg I am hoping that you will write up a breif summary or at least things not to do. Thanks!! rob |

Ooops! I forgot that you have to remove the accellerator discharge jets (the two-leg thingy inbetween the carb throats) first, before you can pull the main venturis out... Don't drop the little copper washers under the accel. jets down the carb throats!!! |

Philip: "Second, I assume after you've pulled the carb tops that the auxillary venturis can just be pulled and the choke "cans" pulled out with your fingers. I am changing mine for a larger set of chokes and want to know how difficult to do. I'd like to do this on the car with minimal disturbance to anything else. I am assuming I can leave all the linkages as set on the car. True?" Yes, pull the auxiliary venturis out and reach down and pull the main venturis (or "chokes" if you will) directly out. The auxiliary venturis have a small spring on one of its "wings" to keep everything in place. You can do this in situ without disturbing any linkages or settings.

Greg The secondary choke circuit tube does not come right out, it is retained by a small circlip (more like a broken washer). After you gently remove it, then the tube slides out. Linkages do stay in place while you do this. But I had mine all part on the bench anyway. |

Greg Two things. First, you might want to check into some Euro style idle mixture screws. Rather than the US one which have a small taper and a shoulder, teh Euro ones have a much gentler, longer taper allowing more precise adjustment. This was helpful for me after fitting a hi duration cam (subject of another thread). Pierce Manifolds has them. Second, I assume after you've pulled the carb tops that the auxillary venturis can just be pulled and the choke "cans" pulled out with your fingers. I am changing mine for a larger set of chokes and want to know how difficult to do. I'd like to do this on the car with minimal disturbance to anything else. I am assuming I can leave all the linkages as set on the car. True?

Guys don't worry I have a digital camera. I also video taped most of it and pointed out what needs to be removed and the nomenclature of each part. I have lots of pics. I will put up a few of them and I can email the rest to you directly if that would help. |

Yes Greg, I would like to see them also. BTW if you are not using a digital camera get one. I was using a 35mm when I did my major and got a cannon 2.1meg camera and difference is amazing. I even blew up a picture to 16x20 and it came out outstanding. Not only the quality of the photos but the convenience of a digital is light years ahead of film IMHO. Plus you can access them immediately blow them up on your computer looking for detail, the list goes on.... Thanks, Rob |

Hey Greg! Carb rebuild time for me is this winter--and it's definitely time. Would very much appreciate any pictures you have or advice you give, as this would very much be a first time thing for me. One way to do this is, when you get the photos developed, send me the negatives and I'll scan them in, or you can get digital pics when you get your film developed (assuming you're not using a digital camera). I could put 'em in a Word doc and post it here, so everyone could benefit . --Mike

I used the parts manual/workshop manual mainly and some stuff from the Weber guide. I actually put most of this on film too. |

Where can I find some detailed instructions, diagrams and stuff. Im actually digging into mine as the final part of my 308 re-do this weekend. I have all the parts, and some books etc, but I figure what the heck you may have some stuff that would be a real help that I have not found. Worth a shot anyhow! |

I am in the process of rebuilding my Weber 40 DCNFs. If anyone wants a pic of a part or any info please feel free to ask. I took quite a few pics so I probably already have a pic of the part you want to see. |
