Peter and Mike

1. I replaced ALL my hoses of all kinds, already last year, every last one except for the AC which was not working anyway.
2. There is no freon in the AC so I wont need to worry about it.
3. I am thinking of removing the hood, and possibly the valence too. It would make the job that much easier.

Hehehe, as many cars are out there, there's probably as many different ways of removing parts from them...

When I took mine out:

1) Does the hood come off? I had to to remove mine. Made life soooooo much easier. Loads of room.
2) A/C condensor/hoses removal? I just unbolted the condensor leaving the hoses connected and pushed the whole lot forward a bit (as much as the hoses allowed) and it gave me the needed room to extract the rad.
3) Lower body removal? Mine is secured with four screws and I took mine off for better access, plus, the trailing edge was past the drain cock on the rad and thus, would've gotten all messed up with the draining coolant.

Since my rad wasn't leaking, I simply flushed some rad-cleaner with hot water and it got all of the crud out.

I second Mike's advice of replacing hoses (but I think you did that already during your rebuild, correct?).

It's been a long time since I did it, but let me see if I can remember:

(1) No, you can just disconnect the strut and raise the hood to vertcal. Tie it to a rafter in the ceiling or something so it doesn't fall and decapitate you!

(2) You have to disconnect the A/C lines to get the radiator out. It's illegal to vent the Freon to the atmosphere, so you probably ought to go to an A/C shop and have them capture the freon, then maybe they will give you a break on the recharge. Be sure to cap the lines and the A/C condensor inputs. This is a good time to replace those o-rings.

Since you have the radiator out, its also good time to have it "boiled out" or rodded and pressure tested at a radiator shop. Don't forget to to replace those hoses with Gates Green Stripe hoses.

(3) IIRC the valence is fibreglass, and is held in place with pop rivets. I just sanded, patched, primed and painted mine, and I'm pretty sure its firbreglass. I don't think I'd take it off unless absolutly necessary.

I just went out and checked - definately fibreglass.

I am attempting to remove the radiator to get at the rust spot under the radiator. I could just blindly go through this but it may be better if I hear from someone who did this before. Anyone has a sequence of things to remove to make the job easier.

My specific questions are:

1. Does the hood come off? I think it would be easier.
2. Do both the AC condensor and the coolant radiator come off as a unit?
3. Does the bottom body panel (the valence I think) come off first?
