Try Duracool. I have used it for 7 years in one car and 5 years in another. The charge is about 40% by weight and it works as well or better than R12. A charge costs less than 20 bucks. Why be ripped off for R12? It is flammable but so is 134a which is what you have in your newer cars. |

Demarzo, I have an 85 QV and it is still on the R12. My mechanic recommends keeping the original set up. His claim is that when it is converted it runs under a higher pressure than the system was designed and will cause premature failure. Additionally he states that the a/c will run colder under a stock R12 system vs. a converted system. |

If you have accurate gauges and thermometer you can get a real good idea of what refrigerant you have in your car. |

If the conversion was done properly, the fittings have been changed to a quick-disconnect type. Looks like a stubby air-hose fitting. Also there should be an R134 lable somewhere, or the R12 lable marked with R134A. Filling procedure is very similar. Search the archives, I went thru this last year & there's a good long thread with links to other web sites. |

Is there a visual way to tell if the ac has been chaged from R-12 to R-13? |

I think I know where to recharge the AC. But I thought I would ask the question any how. I think it's on top of the compressor. Is this correct. And is recharging as straight forward as any other car. |
