Your car is 21 years old. Clean the old, dry, dirty grease off of the gears and it will work better. Not fast, but better. Clean the switches with tuner cleaner. |

Here's one that will work from a later model Mondial on Ebay: "Ferrari Mondial t R.H. Window Switch" - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42612&item=2429052550 And here's another, the kind I like: FERRARI 308 GTB GTS GT4 NEW WINDOW SWITCHES - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6755&item=2427563816

Clean the motor gear from its old crappy grease, re grease. You can dismantle the switch and clean the contacts with an eraser. Be sure the wire tension is not tight, or it will bind. |

Dear Sam, I'm you're man on the windows problem. First, even when new the Mondial window motors are notoriously weak and slow. Don't even try to press both up at the same time. Second, they often don't close all the way, i.e. fitting into the little groove at the top of the frame. Third, when they go bad, they go bad in two ways. The switch is the most likely first check. Believe it or not, the actual switch units go bad frequently. When they fail, you'll notice that the window will go down, but not up or cut out in the direction that it's failing. This is easy to check. Pop the cover off the switches and change the left hand switch for the right hand one, i.e. the good one for the bad. They simply reverse, down becoming up and vice-versa. If this solves your problem, then you know it's the switch. If it's the switch, you have three choices. You can find an old original switch from a dealer that matches your version of the mondial and this will run you about $125 to $200, or you can look on ebay for a bargain $50 to $95 of any of the other version Mondial switches (Torrix or Ansa they'll all fit with different designs on the top) or you can buy the lighted double arrow Alfa switches for about $50 per pair -- which, by the way, will also replace the Sunroof and Radio Antennae units as well. I chose the last alternative for all my fritzy switches and am quite happy, plus I can see them at night finally. If it's the motors, which I doubt cause they're still running, then just run them till they give out, then replace. They're easy to find, but difficult to replace on your own. Try the switches first though, especially if the problem is interrmittent, but getting worse. |

Hi Sam, I am not an expert on this but there are a lot of threads in the archives that cover the possible problems and some solutions. You should do a search on windows, Mondial, amd maybe some other variants. Go back at least a year. I had a very slow, then non operating left rear window on mine and wound up replacing the motor. |

I recall that the Mondial 8 fuse boxes are very marginal. I'd look at fixing the box or bypassing it so more voltage is available to power the windows. Of course, you can also think about cleaning and lubricating the window mechanism too. |

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I would like to know if anyone has experienced a similar problem with the power windows on the Mondial. Specifically, the driver's side window on my '82 goes up and down, but will stop about and inch short of locking into the top of the window frame. It needs to be helped manually. Would this be a motor problem? Regulator, etc? If you have fixed, how much? Thanks Sam
