Thanks Hank. For some reason, I had to go thru that cycle three times with my Beemer before it squeezed all the air out and ran normally. Also, I think you meant to say that after the fans kicked in you put the cap ON (prior to cool down)? |

Jim: I just changed the coolant sensor on my Boxer........same one as on the TR. There is no way to stop the coolant from coming out, since the sensor is at the bottom of the radiator. Keep the heater shut during this operation. I simply drained what came out in a clean bucket, replaced the sensor, and refilled the coolant.......some was left over. One then opens the air releif, till all air comes out......and fill the rest back in. By catching all that goes into the bucket, one knows exactly how much goes back......this assumes that you had it full with coolant to the proper level, to begin with. I then started the car, with expansion cap OFF.....turned on the heater, and waited till the fans kicked in. After cool-down, you may open the air bleed again......then top off the coolant.....DONE! |

Its the season for cooling issues, eh? I noticed my fans stopped working on both sides of '91 TR. From there, I checked to see if I was getting voltage at sensor, and was, so I jumped the wires at the sensor and the fans run. I guess I need to replace the sensor. I am hoping that there is a way to keep the system from draining out, so I don't have to worry about air pockets, bleeding, etc. My BMW took about 3 cycles to bleed recently, overheating a couple times in the process. I definately want to avoid any overheating situations. Any advice?? Thanks, Jim
