It's an '82. I'll have to check to see if it has an O2 sensor. |

OK, an adjustment is out....Is it an O2 sensor car (84 and newer I think)? Most cars are designed to run a little rich if the O2 sesor goes off line (bad sensor or controler). The plunbing/valve on the exhaust manifold that lets air in for the cat may be misbehaving too, if you disconect the hose going to it, there should be a noticable vacuum. That's all I can think of. Dave, I think you right, running rich can overheat the cat. |

You can try adding ethenol to the gas and see if it will pass. Up to 10% is used in emissions sensitive states like Colorado. |

Not a DIY thing...unless you have an exhaust analyzer and the procedure.... |

Haven't touched anything that would change mixture since I last passed emissions two years ago. Should I leave it to Grand Touring to lean it up or is this something that I can do? |

Mark, I agree, a simple adjustment may be all that is needed. Mark, if true, that people/mechanics adjust the system "rich", wouldn't this be hard/bad on the cat? I agree that I have heard similar, that a slightly richer set up is desireable, but that the cat should be removed to prevent damage to it...anyone? |

Based on the numbers, it's running rich. They tend to be smoother with better throttle responce that way, so people adjust them out of spec. Have the injection adjusted to the factory specs and it should pass. If it was lean, you high high NO. |

Mondial 8, 44K miles, all original emissions equipment in place. Runs strong, no obvious problems. Failed 1st Virginia emissions test. I then pulled the plugs, all looked good, installed a set of NGK Iridium IX. Just got back from second test. Failed again: 25 mph test - HC 116, Limit 108, CO% 2.44, Limit 1.35. 15 mph test failed as well. NO ppm - pass at both high and low speed. It's going in to Grand Touring (Laurel MD) in a couple of weeks to see what they can do. In the meantime, any suggestions?
