<<the idle was too high..because my old mechanic set it to 1500 rpms...<<

Understand...

point is, idle is not simply a function of carb adjust once the R2 points are removed. The timing & carbs have to be set together to lower the idle to 900.

Balance all the carbs to 5-6hg then set the idle stops to 1/2 turn...then lower the timing. You should see the correlation between all systems if you try that.

"Is the high flowing barrel on the side of the carb away from the throttle stop? " no it is on the throttle stop side...

I did pull the idle jet out of it for that barrell and it was very loose in its holder.

JVR...the idle was too high..because my old mechanic set it to 1500 rpms...which I thought was a little nuts...he said that, that was where it should be for water pump flow...yes, It did sound nuts to me...so I am in the process of lowering it.

thanks guys.

Just a guess Paul, but it could be the throttle shaft is slightly twisted. I assume the throttle shaft is as closed as it will go. Is the high flowing barrel on the side of the carb away from the throttle stop? If this is the case, it might be possible to carefully twist the shaft so the high flowing barrel closes more fully. This is a fairly high risk procedure though I have done it successfully on DCOE's, which do not have a balance circuit.

well..you need to raise the others to match...nothing says you can adjust infinately lower for a match...only that they are adjustable to obtain match. which in your case is higher on 3.

then lower the timing & idle adjust screws to get back to 900 rpms

I doubt that 2hg's on that 1 carb is why the idle is too high to begin with.

anyone have any thoughts on this? on one of my carbs I am not able to adjust one of the barrels for air flow...the screw is fully seated and the barrel is flowing about 5 kg/h....turning it out will increase the kg/h...all the others are fine at 3kg/h at 1100 rpms.
