Most people would benefit more with money spent on a driving school at a race track that in trying to increase horsepower. I have seen good drivers in a Honda Civic pass Ferraris at Road Atlanta many times. Now if you want a dragster, you need to get a car other than a Ferrari anyway.

Sam, you probably already know this, but...
a cars performance depends on its power to weight ratio.
Cutting a few pounds from your cars diet will in effect work same way as gaining a few HP.
As for the Tubi, I love them...
Louder, yes... more HP, yes... less weight than the stock unit, hell yes...

How about a shot of NOS?

Designed for K-Jet, it shouldn't be too hard to retrofit to Ferrari's Jet.

many many previous threads along these lines. also last forza covered this topic too. bottom line seems to be k/n,test pipe, tubi may produce 5-10 hp at extreme rpm but usually at expense of torque and hp at lower range so seems not worth it.
there are portable in car dyno units by g-analyst and tazzo that you should get before any mods are done then see how your car is after each mod.

Sam,
Nice looking car!!
There is a definite progression to get a bit more umph.
I'll just catalog a few of them.

K&N - you hear different stories from different people. Probably works best in conjunction with something else.

tubi/stebro muffler - yes, it does make a difference that you can feel and hear. The engine will feel like it revs easier as well. This was my experience with my tubi. Tubis look nicer, Stebros probably work just as well for 1/2 price. I think both are worth it.

Test pipe - I am putting one on this week - a Stebro resonator with a glass fill. I am told by many folks that this will make the most difference if you have older technology cats (which you do). Doesn't really add much to the new tech cat cars. It is much louder.

Larger Throttle body - allows more air to flow giving more mid to upper end punch. See the Plenum thread for a couple of details. Not a lot of juice for the squeeze.

All of that being said, need to weigh investment vs going up to a qv which flows substantially more air. Of course, if you've got $3500 to spend, I'd just retrofit the 308 carbs/manifolds/linkage/airbox on your 2 valve and pick up 30-40 hp. But, I'm a weber guy.

Short story: Get the exhaust.
Good luck and have fun!!

sam converting to a tubi taking your cats of and replase them with test pipes you will be luky if you get / 8 to 10 hp. if you want to get noticeable hp you need to get in side the motor $$$$$$$$$$$.

Sam, The surest "mod" you can make for increased HP is to simply remove the radiator cap, hold it up in the air, pull your car out from underneath it, then put a testarossa in its place, and install the cap on that. :-)

I just put in a K&N air filter in my TR and it increased the HP. It is more responsive. I have a tubi, but it was in my car when I purchased it, so nothing for me to compare to.

I searched the archives, but can't seem to come to a conclusion. Does converting to a Tubi or similar exhaust result in increase in HP? Nice sounds are a bonus, but only a noticeable increase in HP (particularly at the low end) would make it a consideration. Is there a more effective way to increase HP?
Thanks
Sam
