Miles... Adding to Phil's correct advice, just assemble the rods so the numbers point down/out... that is, toward the exhaust sides. |

Yes it matters. When you look down the bore, you'll see the journal is offset to the bore centre. The rod offset is for this reason. Remember, two rods share a journal, and end float should exist between both rods and journal side surfaces. A little thought before reassembly and you'll work it out easily. |

I have to send the pistons off to Total Seal for them to remove my old rings (thanks for all of the suggestions for removing my old stubborn rings...however nothing did the trick) and they requested I remove the pistons from the rods. So on my 6th piston I realize "Hey the rods have a certain orinetation!" and of course I have 6 of them apart. On a small block chevy...one side of the rod is clearly the "heavey side" as seen by the beam being off center....however I cant tell a left and right side to the Ferrari rod. Does the orientation matter? I've got two rod/piston assemblys still together and can't see any obvious difference between the two. Thoughts? Thank you to everyone! |
