Robert Mine got stuck down recently (cables work, locks work, just wouldn't release the inverted ?-shaped retaining pins). I pushed down on the cover a couple of times. wiggled it away from the side that wasn't releasing and it popped up. While I haven't broken a cable, your post did cause me to look at the mechanism on my 308 more carefully. I may be wrong, but I think you can do this without breaking anything. I'd get a thin bladed screwdriver and insert it under the cover, over the top of the rubber sealing ring on the luggage area and try and engage the latch with the tip of the blade by moving it outwards. As I said, I haven't done this, but I'm willing to bet that with a little effort you'll be able to move the latch sideways, away from the pin enough to release the lid. Good luck, HTH |

Robert, Follow Dave's advice and have someone assist you. Have someone press down on the engine cover over the left lock while you pull the emergency cable. Barry |

From your description whatever broke the regular cable will cause the same problem with the emergency cable The tail light access seems the way for the least permanent damage |

Robert If the cable is broken between the two locks, all the pulling on the emergency cable won't help - it only works on the first lock. Assuming the 328 is the same as a 308. If the cable has just come out of the first lock, rather than broken in the centre, you may be able to grab the end with pliers after you ease the corner of the engine cover up. If not, apart from Phil's suggestion - the only other way to access the other lock is to cut a hole throgh the wheel arch into the luggage space. Ouch! |

I have found that sometimes it takes two people, one to pull the cable release, and the other to lift the bonnet. |

You'll have to pull the emergency cable VERY hard to get both catches. If you are sure it wont release the other catch, the only way in is to smash the nearest rear lamp and get a gadget on the catch from behind. |
