Thanks Laurance. I think it was Damon Runyon who told us the three great "nevers." 1. Never play cards with a man named "doc." 2. Never eat at a place called "Moms." 3. And never ever sleep with a woman who has more problems than you. Here is number 4 4. Never but never drain coolant in a 328 by taking the lower radiator hose off. |

Never remove the radiator hoses on an older car unless you absolutely have to do it. You always run the risk of cracking the paper thin metal near the radiator nozzle either by removing the old one or reinstalling it. Remember that corrosion slowly eats away the metal. As time marches on, the risk or cracking it increases. Use the drains. |

>>Nowhere, however, had I read of just opening that drain to drain the radiator. Anyone have any tjhoughts on this?><< Yes it's easier to use the draincock to dump the fluid rather than removing the hose. Or in cases where the drain cock might be frozen, the thermal fan switch can be unscrewed, it's also on the bottom. |

Thanks guys for the help. I finally got the hose on just by spending a couple of hours muscling it in a very tight space. Just as I was about to give up it slipped on. The pipe on the side away from the radiator has flexibility to move back and forth. Problem is that the movement is restricted by all of the stuff around the radiator pipe. By the way I cut the old hose off. It was easier to get it off that way and I figured that I might as well replace it since the car has 32K miles. Turns out that the old hose looked identical top the new hose and showed no wear at all. I did the procedure this way-taking the hose off-as recommended by on of the writeups. Now I notice that the owner's manual shows a "radiator drain" at the bottom of the radiator on the drivers side. Nowhere, however, had I read of just opening that drain to drain the radiator. Anyone have any tjhoughts on this? |

Russ, A few years back, I went through the same frustration you're going through now trying to change the lower hose on my BB. Tom is 100% on the money with loosening the clamps that are holding the alu tubes under the front of the car. Once the alu tube can be moved sideways a bit, you'll be able to get the hose on. FYI...A 3 foot section of 1.5" Gates Green Stripe hose is about $40. Higher quality than the OE Ferrari hoses...and can easily be cut to length for other hoses on the car with the "special" Gates hose cutter. I use Castle 100% pure silicone spray on the hoses and ends to faciltate easier installation. Regards, David |

Try loosening any clamps that may be holding the metal pipe in place. You would be suprized at how much frustration a little clamp or bracket can cause! |

My problem is this. 1. To change coolant took the 1. 5" hose off at bottom of radiator. Had to cut it to get it off. 2. Bought new hose from Ferrari of Seattle ($32.). 3. Have spent two days trying to get the hose on. Have greased it and the pipe. Can slide it just so far onto the pipe but there is not enough room to line it up with the radiator pipe to get it onto that pipe. 4. Can slide it onto the radiator pipe but cannot get it lined up with the other pipe to slide it on. 5. Seems like this was designed by some diabolical engineer as some kind of cruel joke. Ther is probably some simple trick to this. I will be gratefull for any help on this. |
