Thanks, again, Rob. Greg, I've seen , on other threads that people recommend 1.5" hose if one doesn't use the proper 40mm hose. I could not get that size to fit under the plenum ( of course this is more awkward a place than the average fitting ), even with a lot of silicone lube. 1 5/8" was looser, but I was able to clamp it down well enough to not leak ( so far, I've put about thirty test miles on the car and have idled it to hot for extended periods w/o any leakage at all). I believe that 1 5/8" is equivalent to about 40.6 mm. |

Greg, On the gt4 (I thinks yours is the same) all the radiator hoses are 40mm ID, 50mm OD, even the 90degree angle hose at the top of the radiator. Rob |

Bill V., Are you aware of any source that lists ALL of the hose diameters (I.D.)? One of my planned winter activities is to go over the car (308QV)completely and replace any hose I can get my hands on. |

Rob--thanks for the info and excellent picture. Yes, I have that set-up and I think I'll follow your approach by installing the stock metris hoses, just to be sure --given this awkward location. However, I did manage to replace the top one with a piece of 1 5/8" hose temporarily. I'll do both with the metric hose this Winter. |

Bill. I use all stock hoses and buy them from TR in Atlanta. The correct size is 40mm ID 50mm OD. The hose has a linen like finish the the rubber. I usually buy a 6 foot piece of hose and cut it down to the right sizes, and you have some left over :-). I also use ABA SS clamps and put a little coolant on the inside of the hose to slip them on. If your engine is like the early cars there are 2 hoses there one above the other? Best, Rob

Thanks, John--that was very helpful. Re: the size of the top hose, the one which burst on my car, I couldn't get a 1.5" hose to budge onto the pipe. I brought the original to NAPA and they found it to be closer to 1 5/8". I installed that size on mine tonight and after a long warm-up and 6 mile test drive, it's not leaking. Obviously, I'll keep checking it for the next few miles to insure that it holds up. Tthis larger sized hose was only mildly snug and slid on fairly easily with silicone lube. We'll see. I didn;t have the heart or energy tonight to tackle the lower hose, so I hope she holds up until Winter. |

Hi Bill- Gary Reed posted this in an earlier post about those exact hoses. Check it out http://groups.msn.com/garyreed/308qvhosesreplaced.msnw This might help. It helped me quite a bit. The 1.5" is correct as far as I know. I replace the hose off the front of the WP and it was tight but did go on. I used NAPA gold stripe. Warm them in the sun and use a little hose lube. They sell it at Autozone. Good luck. |

Am I correct on this size, ie 1.5" ? I just tried to fit that size onto the pipe and it seemed too tight to get on . Does anyone know the metric sizes of the origibal hoses? |

Well, after a spirited 100 mile plus trip on a perfect day today, as soon as I pulled into my garage, the upper coolant hose under the intake plenum burst ( talk about good timing!). I was able to get it off w/o dismantling anything, but I think it would be wise at this point to also replace the lower one. It looks rather difficult to get to. My Q's are: are there any tricks to getting these hoses on w/o dismantling the plenum? Secondly--are there special hoses I shoukd get for this application, given the high heat? I know a number of people on Chat recommend NAPA Green Stripe--would this be appropriate for this job? Finally--is this a 1.5" inner diameter hose? Thanks in advance. |
