Well, you're about right. Close is better, but you know when you get it right because it feels like something actually pulls it into the lower gear! You must remember to double de-clutch though, or you're just posing! |

apologies if this is a stupid question, but i don't know and haven't found an answer to it. when rev matching on a downshift to spin up the input shaft, is accuracy of the RPM match one of those things where "close is better" or is it one of those things where if you can't match it don't bother? i assume that "close is better than nothing", but i'm curious to hear if that assumption is wrong. if you're in 3rd at 3000RPM and are dropping it to 2nd which nets to 5500RPM (i'm just making these numbers up for illustrative purposes) is it "better" to match at 5000 or 4500 than to match at 2000? or is it all the same? if you can't match them, does the tranny basically have to do the same amount of work (or rather, does it incur the same amount of wear) from 4500 -vs- 2000 so don't bother unless you can nail it at 5500? tia, doody. |
