C'mon guys, there's a good reason why the short cable is more expensive than the long one. Let's remember who we're dealing with. They have to throw away the excess when they make a short one. ;) |

Thank you Frank. I think I will make my own. Looks like a fun project. I'll add the fuse block upgrade and make a weekend out of it. Parking brake first though. Will you be making the trip over to Houston for the Running of the Bulls? I think Kelly and Donny/Tracie are thinking about it. Let me know I can offer safe parking at my house as well as set up hotel rooms for you guys. Jeremy |

Gianluca, Thank you for the pics. That is exactly the idea that I had. I just hadn't made it to the hardware store yet. Excellent job BTW. Looks very professional. |

Jeremy, I bought some 3/32" stainless steel cable, some ferrules, the "eyes" and a turnbuckle from Sears Hardware. They also sell the swaging tool Swage-it #2(you MUST use this for a holding swage). I think the total cost was about $ 5.00 plus the tool. I have already replaced the windows cables and the parking brake (short) cable. Have not had any problems at all. Please note that on the parking cable I have used 2 ferrules.

Yeah, I looked that up last night on the owners site. I was thinking it didn't make much sense. Twice the cable for half the price???? I'm thinking that the short cable has a history of braking more often than the long cable. The bolt that broke and is stuck in the adjustment thingie had been twisted quite a few times. I am thinking that it is the reason the previous owner never fixed the parking brake. It had been twisted to the point the threads were almost gone. I have to get that out tonight. JR to the rescue!!!!! |

Jeff: I suppose there's a good reason that the short cable is more than twice as much as the long cable?

While adjusting the parking brake I managed to snap the bolt attached to the short cable. I'm sure when I ask JR how much force to use he'll say, "Not that much." Any way to fix this, or is replacing the cable the only option? It looks like the bolt is pressed onto the cable. Any ideas? |
