Charles,
How does the length of the Volvo strut compare
to the original? If it's the same or even slightly longer, It'd be worth the effort for the greater strength.

"Saab bolts right on. Hight is slightly lower but they work"

Do they ever!

While waiting for "Ferrari" struts, I put one Saab 900T strut on. Didn't open as far (signficantly), but would raise itself when you pop the latch.

Put two new Ferrari ones on, and now the hatch opens further -- manually, doesn't raise itself. And it doesn't want to stay open when it's cold out.

No, the Saab ones say "Bosch", not "Ferrari".

BTW: Save your weak struts. The ones you can compress by hand are perfect for putting pressure on the brake pedal for bleeding the hydraulics. (Okay, a pressure bleeder is better.)

The ones from Jeff are a perfect fit and not expensive. I bought them from him a few months ago. Also, they are slighter more beefy than the originals.

Jeff:

Does your strut have "Ferrari" printed on it?

Hi all.

The rear deck lid strut #60592800 is $29 from us.

Can be Fedexed next day too.

Hope this is useful.

This is one of those parts that really aren't that expensive to get the "right" one from either the dealer or from a source like T. Rutlands.

I found that an 85 (I think this is the year) Volvo rear hatch shock can work on the rear deck lid. You will have to work the ends to make it work. took me about 30 minutes to cut and file the ends to fit. I will feel like an idot if there is another local part that doesn't need any work to fit. Will give more details if there is any intrest in this retro fit.
