JMG & others,

Not stuck - can figure it out.
Whenever you find it, let me know.

When I started looking at Ferraris to determine if I should get one and which model, I saw manuals on CDs advertisied, but have not seen them advertisied lately.

Since the owners site has all the owners manuals, it got me to thinking that a wiring diagram and a shop manual on CD would be good to have and carry in the car for emergencies and to help learn about the car.

Since there are so few Ferraris made of any model, do not know if there is enough demand to print them.

What manuals are normally available for Ferraris?
Is this a dealer item or are there other sources available?

As always, thanks for the help,
Dave

I tapped into the power that comes off of the trunk switch as it is rarely used, ignition only and high capacity fused.

PS, if you are stuck, I do have a wiring diagram but I am in the middle of moving my office, tough to find right now.

Dave - instead of tapping a wire under the dash on the driver's side, run the power cord into the passenger's side - IF the fuse box is under the passenger floor kickpanel like on the 348/355. If so, you can directly tap a fuse. Use a "fuse tap" (box of 6 from Radio Shack, $0.99). Use a voltmeter (or read the manual) to find a fuse that is "live" only with the ignition.

JMG & others,

Looked under the dash on the driver's side.

There are a fair number of wires under there.
How can I identify the best wire to tap into?

Is there a wiring diagram for the Mondial t on the Internet? The owner's manual does not have one. I found a wiring diagram for the 328 - is the Mondial similar?

Thanks.

Not being as tall as Dennis, I am with JMG to mount to the right of the rear view mirror. Easier to see than directly above and so close, like when mounted to the left of the mirror.

When the van was broken into, it was parked a block and a half from the Governors Mansion in SLC. It seems theives were targeting that area since there was much high value items in the area.

It appears they trashed the van due to frustration since there was nothing of value in it. Or maybe anger at the world.

Ordered the remote V-1 indicator today.

Never and I leave the top down all the time. Only time I ever take it out is when I am in a suspect area and basically I don't tend to stay there much anyway. But, perhaps that is the NW for you...

Jim,

Have you had problems with anyone trying to steal the V-1?

Any other suggestions for making it less obvious?

Once had a 4x4 van broken into. Much expensive damage was done. They got a cheap radar detector and an old radio/cassette. So I am sensative to this.

Have a great weekend everyone,
Dave

In my 89 T Cab, I have the power drawn from an ignition wire, remote display on the steering column and the detector mounted on the windshield to the right of the rearview mirror. Wiring runs up the driver A pillar. (Actually, only the rear antennae is outside of the mirror, the rest is behind. This almost completely hides the detector.)

Dave, start with following the power wire from the detector. It should have an in-line fuse (glass cylinder; easily available at any Radio Shack). If the fuse is ok, use a voltmeter or test light to check to see if the detector is getting power. If the power wire is run directly to the fuse box and taps the power through one of the cars fuses, check that fuse.

Aside from that, it IS time to switch to the V1. See my thread on the general Ferrari discussion board for hints on how to install the V1. As for location on your Mondial T cab, I'd stick with the usual location - high on the windshield, just to the left of the rear view mirror. With the top up, it'll be virtually invisible from outside the car. With the top down, you can just unplug it and zip it out of the mount to take with you or lock away.

vty,

89 Mondial t cab:

Previous owner put in a built in radar detector. Not the V1, but the next one that many people use. Looks like a professional job. However, it went out a few days ago.

Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting. First I was going to trace the wiring and check the fuze. Is there a standard fuze that people wire these things to? Anything unusual to check?

Was also thinking it might be a good time to switch the V1 from the Mercedes to the Ferrari.

Any suggestions on the best way to put a V1 into a Mondial t cab?

Thanks.
