Ahhhhhh. This helps. So, the 'hicough' occurs from cold-start only at the point when the coolant temperature reached, hmmm, 150-160oF? If this sounds right, you still want to do all the cleaning of connectors/ connections, but this may be related to the auxiliary air injection system (air pump) which works with coolant temperatures between something like 50oF - 150oF (I don't have the specific spec with me, I know others have this memorized). |

Additional data: The problem occurs only once per ride just as the car is reaching full operating temperature. |

GOOD LUCK! Needle-in-haystack gremlins are the worst. With no MIL and only intermittent, infrequent malfunction, you've got a headache. I'd start with an electrical system enema: Clean all contacts and grounds with ScotchBrite and contact cleaner. Look for slightly misaligned pins, or pushed-back pins potentially making intermittent contact. Literally grab and move the wiring harness and note any rpm changes, or Lambda sensor changes, signal changes from any trigger or sensor. Clean all grounds by removal and reinstallation. Do a search and read the archives on thermocouple ECU, grounds, engine ECU, oxygen sensor/ lambda sensor. Get a WSM if you don't have one already. Use of an oscilloscope may be necessary for looking at sensor outputs. Rob |

A few months ago I had a sudden loss of power(50%?). The electrical contacts in the engine compartment were cleaned. Now there is a slight loss of power after driving ~1 mile and it lasts ~1/2mile. It acts as if there was insufficient ignition advance. The engine runs smooth, there are no check lights. The car recently passed CA's smog inspection easily. The problem occurs infrequently. |
