The 328's had a single inlet like the QV's but my carb car has 2 in and 4 out from either end of the muffler can. I wonder about this to get the right sound when going aftermarket, Some systems like Borla have 2 seperate mufflers side by side and Tubi is of course 1 muffler but may split inside. Who knows.

Hmmm...on my '84, there is only 1 inlet, so it is definately common. Different years may be different. I have never seen a twin in/out muffler that is divided inside...but ferari is ferrari. I guess the quick test is just start the engine and cover the tips on either side with your hands, if you can keep them there, it's common. The flow from all 8 cylinders has to go somewhere, if it isn't building up pressure, it's going out the other 2 tips.

Note: you should do this when the muffler is cold :-)

Interesting you should say its a common muffler Mark, I was told it was 2 seperate mufflers inside by someone who cut one open. I assumed it mixed both banks before my friend cut a 308 muffler open. Have you seen inside one? I havent but would like to know for sure. I assumed again the pressure difference was due to the pipe length differences from the front to rear bank.

You should feel more pressure on the right side.

Are you putting your hand over the exhaust tips? If so, it is perfectly normal that one side flows more than the other at low rpm. It is a common muffler (both inlets connect to both outlets) and flow tends to prefer one side.

I recently broke a distributor rotor. While I was trouble shooting I did notice that pressure from the first 4 cylinders exhast was dramatically less the the rear 4. I did finnaly figure out it was the distributor and that the front four cylinder were bearly running. I just but in the new rotor today and retrieved my power, but the pressure is still a good deal less than the rear four. Is this how it is supposed to be or do I still have an ignition problem with the first four cylinders.

Thanks,
Jeff
