My mis-understanding Coach -- I posted before I saw your usage/storage method in the other thread (which should be ideal for the battery).

Steve, my battery is either disconnected when I am not running the car, or it is attached to a two amp charger...sometimes both. I went with the Die Hard International again, because it fit in the well, and we do not have PepBoys in my area. Can't buy batteries on the internet because no one seems to want to ship them. Right?

Coach I -- Have you confirmed the quiescent current draw is reasonable?

Will the battery tie-down bracket work with an Optima battery. As I remember the Boxer takes a group 24 or maybe it was 27 battery size. If so then to correctly secure the battery is has to be the correct group; correct?

The red top works in most cars. My 348 used an orange top because it called for reverse poles to connect up with the cables.

Hi........

The Ferrari factory workshop/repair manual for the Boxer [ISBN 0-9606804-7-0 - translation by Angelo Wallace] states that the battery should be rated at 74 ampere-hours at 12 volts.

Any battery with at least this current generation capability should work well, as long as it will fit in the battery box and the terminals can be reached by the cables. I have used a "Mercedes Benz" battery sold by Sears for some time without fail.

Check the state of charge of your battery and the electrical connections to make sure that you are drawing adequate amperage to turn the starter motor at the correct speed. The alternator should produce 14 volts to maintain battery charge. Make sure that the alternator belt is not slipping during operation....a tough job in itslef, given the location.

It is a good idea to place a "Battery Minder" on your battery to maintain charge during long periods of storage. I bought one from Griot's Garage.

Good luck !!

For those of you who drive boxers, can you recommend a battery that will fit in the battery well? I have tried two to three diehards in recent years, and they just dont seem powerful enough.
