Frank, The thermostat you refer to was a factory upgrade on the earlier Boxers...and standard equipment on the injected Boxer. Orginally, my 365 had a drop-in thermostat, similar to the set-up on a 308. This set-up was used on the 512BB, as well. There was a service bulletin in the late 70's that addressed the issue of "excessive vibrations in the water tubes...and a way to increase water flow through the cooling system. The modification included a integral Behr thermostat housing, replacement of some of the alu water tubes...and re-routing of some of the engine cooling hoses. I did this modification many years ago...as I liked the idea of increased water flow. If you look in a 365 or 512 parts book, and compare the thermostat set-up to a BB512i, the modification becomes quite clear. As the the color of the thermostat??...the old Behr was black and the new one I just purchased from Ferrari-UK was black, as well. Regards, David |

I personally don't remember the t-stats being anything but black. Have 2 boxers sitting here and a 400i just came by for a look & listen and it was also black. |

Does anyone know why Ferrari updated the old silver colored thermostat for the Boxer,400 and 365 to a black colored one with part# 106393? |
