Byron,

Not sure about your GB but the 308's, boxer need the LSX which is the additive which makes the limited slip differential clutches function properly. How is your car?

I posted this info before I am using the AGIP and am very satisfied.

Limited slip differentials need (usually) a friction modifier. It prevents that chatter when making tight turns like in a driveway. On the track there are no tight turns and the differential needs to lock up easier for the best traction.

All these things are not written in stone however.

I would be interested to know if anyone has compared the GM gear oil with the Agip SXA non-slip. Ever since recently having my gearbox rebuilt, I have a much fonder appreciation of gear lubrication. The transmission feels notchy right now, esp. when cold, but shifts pretty well (except sometimes into 4th) when up to temp.

So what is different about the setup of the Murcielago that requires anti-friction over the non-slip? What is the composite differences between these oils?

Byron,

There have been numerous posts. Get that Mobil 1 out of there. It is factually corrosive to your transmission.

I recently tried the Redline 75W-80 gear oil as I only drive around town and therefore run cooler. It has 5 percent anti-friction additive and is not working well, too slippery for the synchros.

I ordered some Redline 75W-90 NS (non-slip) that many are liking and it should go in this weekend. Later this year I will centainly try the Agip SXA. I ordered both the LSX and SXA today knowing that I will need these in my Murcielago when it gets delivered in December or January. I also wanted to try it the in 575.

I like to experiment and in the big picture of life this oil is cheap and anyway research does cost some money.

As a biochemist among other things I do a lot of specific research within the companies to get the facts.

Ali,
Have you found a drastic improvement after using the Agip SXA? Also, what is the drawback of using the LSX for a ferrari?

I have the Mobil 1 stuff and was thinking about going to the GM gear oil. Perhaps I should try the SXA for my 348?

After I complained to Ferrari of Central Florida they finally gave me a recommendation for better shifting in my 575 M. They said to use the Agip SXA 75W-90. Lamborghini of Orlando, Ultimate, was kind enough to save me some time and gave me the number of the importer for Agip. I got a bunch of information.

The SXA is a non-slip version of gear oil. The Murcielago uses the LSX that has the anti-friction additive. Both are fully synthetic. This explains why people are satisfied with the Redline 75W-90 NS (non-slip) in their Ferraris.

Specs for both the SXA and LSX are as follows...
Viscosity - - 15.6 at 100 C, 117 at 40 C
Flash point - - 204 C
Pour point - - (- 40 C)
API GL-5, MT-1, PG-2

The importer is American Agip. 800-922-9243. Ask for Carl Sisler in technical. They have all the Agip products, motor oils et cetera. The LSX comes in a case of 12 1 liter jars for $80.36. The SXA only comes in a 5 gal. jug for $107.70.
