If anyone is interested, I have a speedo from a 1985 Euro 308 QV that I would like to sell. Make me a fair offer. Email me direct.

Mike, no pentrating oil will likely not help. They really coat those screws well, with the loctite, so nothing is going to get in...but I suppose it won't hurt either, so what the heck. Best, would be to take a nice hot 100 watt soldering gun and heat up each one with the tip for a minute before attempting to remove...I bet that would loosen that loctite stuff...

It will happen, and there's an easy fix.

Take the pocket clips off of the caps of ballpoint pens. Cut the clips to the proper length and heat the clips.

Melt them into the base of the light assembly.

Works great, but I wasn't the one that came up with the idea; a friend did.

while you are sending speedo to pal alto
have them check or replace the electronic
splitter that splits signal to speedo/odometer..
this part is known weakness on these cars.
Be careful removing the 4 lights..easy to break off retaining tabs and then the assemblies need replacement or will not stay in sockets propetly.

Would a little precautionary penetrating oil on the allen screws make sense here? Would it have an effect?

Easy, remove the lights in each of the four corners. Behind you will find #2 Philips screws, remove them. Remove dash panel, and you will have two thumb nuts to remove, along with lock washers. Also a plug or two from the back of the speedo. That is it. Oh, and you MAY need to remove the steering wheel....Careful with that one. 3mm allen wrench, and the screws are loctited in with blue 242 loctite. Use a god, high quality allen wrench and don't let it slip, or you risk scratching your wheel. If the heads on the screws strip (no uncommon) you will then need to drill a hole in it, and us an easy out (extractor) happened to me...
