Tolulene and Xylene in 5 gal containers is closer to $5.50 then $8.00. 104 Race gas at TWS is $5.00/gal, and a couple of gallons in a 3/4 full tank will perk up an engine noticibly. |

Mark, With all due respect...this statement is fundamentally flawed: "They claim to effectivly increase the octane by making the burning of the fuel/air mixture more complete..." Higher octane fuel simply burns mores slowly, than lower octane fuel...The "burning" of the air/fuel ratio is more of a function of engine design and thermodynamics then it is of the fuel... Great marketing...though a bit light on the substance. David |

Mark, Why are you interested in higher octane? Planning on something other than normal aspiraton? Search the archives, there was a very long post about alternative fuel mixtures. Probably just start searching for 'octane' and 'toluene'. Bottom line, with the downright low compression ratios of the US spec 3x8s, you don't even need to run premium if the engine is normally aspirated. |

hog wash...oh, imo Toluene is about 114 octane, available at most hardware stores for about $8/gal and can be mixed in any proportion with gas to get you any octane you want, 1 gal 93 gas + 1 gal 114 = 2 gals 103.5. Race gas is available at most speed or motorcycle shops for about $6 and can be blended the same way. Personally, I dont consider it a street engine if it wont run on what come on of the pump, but I have been know to turn the boost up for special occasions. |

I was looking into octane enhansers and came across a few products called fuel catalysts. They claim to effectivly increase the octane by making the burning of the fuel/air mixture more complete with an additional benifit of reducing the emissions. The test results look interesting. There are several companies: Protec International, biofriendly.com, and Blue Sky clean air.com. Any experience or thoughts on this?
