'Blowing' the seal can't happen as there's no pressure on the seal. Suddenly getting worse is unlikely as there's really nothing to cause the lip to tear. Slow wear/degradation over time is the most probable scenario for failure of unpressurized seals. |

Jeremy it's not coming from the Gearbox breather is it? My 328 used ot do this under hard driving conditions the local specialist cured it by extending the breather via a tube over the top of the wheel arch |

Guys. Thanks for the feedback. Do you think further track events risk blowing the seal completely? Could it disintegrate, or just leak faster (this may be a dumb question.) I can't drive like a nun & can live with a leak, but to blow up my baby would be devastating |

Jeremy When you run the cars hard at the track you can find the oil will weep past the seals. Happens on my 308. Street driving doesn't do it. Yes, it is a sign that the seals are ageing, unfortunately, not gracefully! HTH |

Hi Jeremy, Had the same problem a few weeks ago. It turned out to be a high oil level in the engine. The level was above the max-indicator on the dipstick. When so, the oil will stress around the seal when driving. Try to drain some oil when so. Hayo. |

Jeremy, It doesn't sound like anything too major, but annoying. you could wait, especially if you pay attention to your levels. You should fix it though. Does it stop after a few hours? Sorry I didn't write the usual Gt4 joke here. Vincent |

David, sorry, I was under the impression the 328 was similar to the 3.2 mondial which has a slave. Jeremey, I will call you |

Hi Tom Bryan's tuning the aircon and inspected the source. It's not the cam/distributors. There's an elogated "slot" at bottom of flywheel casing, which matches the shape of the drip stain on the garage floor (the car's too low to see exactly what's going on). Bryan drove it but revealed nothing. He obviously drives his clients' cars with due care I'll get the seal replaced but I'm worried it might get worse quickly. If the drips stay at the present rate, I'll probably leave it until spring. How's your car. We should hook up. |

Advice please. Took my 328 to Lime Rock a month or so ago. Gave it a great run, no redlining but plenty of throttle Engine sounds and runs beautifully. I get home and find I have an oil leak It looks as if the seal between the crack and the flywheel has started weaping. I don't lose any oil if I drive gently, but as soon as I let those ponies out it starts dripping. I lose enough to leave a small wet area about 3" diameter whenever I park for a few hours (wife not happy). I was wondering if I could leave the seal until next year's Spring service, or are these things better replaced immediately? |
