Robin,

You may be able to kill two birds with one stone by getting some spacers made with the 67mm bore as standard and the front spigot turned down to suit the new wheels.
This would also overcome the offset problem If there is one :-)

You would obviously need longer wheel bolts to accommodate the spacers.

It may be advisable to try and measure the offset of the current stock wheels to get an exact figure to compare against the new wheels.

If the offset is right on the new wheels, I would suggest taking the wheels to a machine shop to bore them out. Make sure that they machine them concentric!!

I'm wondering if the 55mm offset number is correct. My 85 has closer to 45mm offset.

Take one of your stock front wheels off and check that. Then you'll have to check the new wheels you want to see if there's enough metal for a machine shop to bore it out. That's not something you'd want to try with sandpaper! :-)

Hi Mike
Thanks for your message.
I also checked the website of ACE and could't find the wheels I'd seen in the shop here (which are definitely 5 by 108mm), so I guess they are old stock and maybe ACE only show the new lines on the webpage. The wheels are good, and clearly not used, so I guess they have been sitting around in the warehouse for some time waiting for someone with such a freakish pattern to come along.
The size is good, the price is very good and they certainly look better than the Volvo/Peugeot knock-offs that have the same PCD patterns - its a simple 5 spoke design - but what to do about the hub dia?

Question is, how far does the hub actually protrude into the wheel centre? Would it be possible, do you think, to take them to an engineering shop and get the nearmost part of the wheels' centre diameter bored out? Or should I spend a couple of weeks going at it with some sand-paper?

If the hub diameter is too small (which is what you say it is) then it won't clear your hubs and won't fit flush.

I looked at www.acealloywheel.com -- what model wheel are you considering? I didn't see any 17" wheels with the 5x108mm bolt pattern.

Hi and greetings once again from Dubai.

I'm replacing my TRX/metric rims and have gone through the archives to establish that what I need for my 86 Mondial Cab have a +55 offset (ET), 5 by 108mm wheel lug pattern (PCD) and that the hub centre dia should be 67mm.

Now, I've found some very reasonably priced 17" alloys made by Ace Alloy Wheels (good old 'Made in Taiwan'...) for $100 per wheel - brand new. Everything looks good - PCD is 5 by 108mm, offset is 45mm...but the hub diameter is 65.1mm instead of 67mm.

Anyone know if this might be a problem?

Any help appreciated.
