Get ~1" or 1-1/4" square grey foam sold for sealing around window A/Cs in most HW stores. Use 2 srips side by side, glue them down with trim cement or contact cement. You can bond them together by spreading contact cement very very thinly on the side of 1 strip & touching them together. Trim with a razor blade or new box cutter. Look just like original when done carefully.

I have the same problem with my '85 QV. I'm pretty sure the problem is the foam strip stuck on the hood to seal with the spare wheel division. The foam has an indentation on the left and centre strips but the right side is unmarked, therefore not connecting with the wheel division. Does anyone know of an alternative source of this foam as I'm sure the OE stuff is prohibitively expensive. As winter approaches the UK, I may delay the repair until spring - this is NOT Florida!

I have had 3 308's and all had the "mysterious heat" from under the dash.

I will try all of these and update you on the thread. I can turn a wrench, but not owning a QV I didn't know all the 'ins' and 'outs' of the model so this is a big help.

When I purchased my car I was missing the cover that goes under the spare tire above the battery and my mechanic pointed it out to me. We put one back in and it made a big improvement in the heat. He claims that that has to be there to have a separation of exterior/interior air or heat can blow inside the cabin.

Thanks for the tips!

This may be unassuming; but you are aware that there are two vents underneath your dash.

One on the drivers side, and one on the passenger side.

Thery're just like the three on your dashboard; make sure you have them closed in the summer months.

In the GT4 I taped the vents shut with black electrical tape, this cut down on the vent leak significantly.

I have this problem with the 87 328 GTS, I have not been able to track exactly where the source is, but it is NOT coming from the heater vents...appears to be coming from somewhere below the speedo/tach area, but when I had those out to repair the tach, I could see no logical source from up there....

Mine does it too...a lot of heat, none of which is coming from the heaters, removed the water lines and tape the air feed to be sure. I think something around the pedal box leaks radiator air in, but I haven't found it yet.

Although there is several causes, Jerry is probably on the right track. Air flows continuously thru the heater cores, so if there is any hot water there, you'll cook. The valves often don't close all the way. If so, you're lucky, as this is a simple repair. Often, however, the valves leak (hey, your car is damn near 20 years old, right??), so you may need new ones.

As a temp fix, you can block the heater hoses off. In Florida, this wouldn't be the end of the world.

Is your foam seal on the underside of the hood there? One is located at the front right over the radiator, and a second one to seal the spare tire well. The tire well one was missing on mine, replacing it made a big change

Ken,
Check the position of your heat switches on the center console and the little finger size holes on the air delivery duct to the center grills; (as if you haven't already thought of this). The car might just be allowing in some ambient air and it is drifting out of the system prior to the vents?

Check the heater controls....sometimes they don't
close completely even though they look closed at
the console.Check under the hood and see if they are closed completely. They might need to be pushed to the fully closed position.

You mean heat that wasn't there before? How high is your water temp? Does your AC work?

Ok,now that I have your attention I am hoping someone can help with a problem. I have an 85 QV and have slight heat coming from under the dash while driving? Any ideas?? In Florida I don't need anymore heat in the cabin than I already have!

Thanks, and ok, I'll buy the first guy to solve this a case of beer!
