Michael, I am curious where did you drill the hole. There is a smal hole in the flat part that mounts to the bumper. I am asuming that is where they were filled with gas. I have 3 drained ones and one that seems still under pressure. I dont want to do anything stupid. Thanks for the input guys! Rob |

All, The euro bumper wont fit the US gt4 without major body modifications, there are 2 cut out on each side to hold the small side bumperette + I really was looking for a little less obtrusive front and rear. Michael, the ones I picked up are already shot and with little effort you can push and pull them. hey I could pull them out for concours then push them in for that hot date! Rob |

Looks or weight? For me the first two criteria were weight and weight. Third was looks. I have Euros (glass) bumpers mounted on US shocks. Alignment is perfect per the Euro look. Weight difference has to be felt to be believed. US bumpers must have an embedded steel bar and are H-E-A-V-Y. Oh, when I was silly enough to bump it into something else the other day, nothing happened (outside of a racing heartbeat) besides giving the bumper shock some exercise. |

I've drilled a hole in my front bumper shocks and then pushed in the front bumper via a rubber mallet. I'm not sorry. There seems to be no reason to weld it, since it would take a lot of effort to pull it back out. It's not something that's likely to happen by itself, at least on mine.

Robert, re:"the euro model had no shocks" While my Euro doesn't have shocks, it does have a mechanism for absorbing minor bumps w/o bending things. The bumper mounts are basicly a pair of telescoping pipes. The bumper's pipe has a single bolt hole with a nut welded inside of the pipe (now just how did they do that?). The matching pipe has a matching ~3" long slot. The bumper is positioned & the bolt tightened down to hold it in place. Normally my bumper sits with the bolt in the middle of the slot. If you bump something the bumper will force the bolt to slide in the slot, but the bolt provides a substantial amount of resistance. When I 1st got the car, I accidently backed into the side of my garage a couple of times. So far the 'give' in the bumper mounts has been enough to keep any metal from getting bent. Maybe it's just bought me enough time to get on the brake. Not a lot of protection, but better than nothing. |

I have a 1975 gt4. see profile. I got a set of used collapsed bumper shocks and toying with the idea of mounting them, pushing in the bumper till I like the look, then marking, removing, welding and replacing. of course I will keep my undamaged shocks. My wife goes boy when you hit something you sure will mess up the car, but I am thinking the euro model had no shocks, neither most other early Ferrari's. I really dont plan on hitting anything and if I hit hard enough the bumper will be the least of my problems! Have any of you done this? I am thinking not all the way in just about 1.5", will make it look a bit smoother? At least I dont have the early bumper! Rob |
