You can set the lauch control out of 1st as soft/slip or firm/quick as per your taste.
-Pull both paddles (neutral)
-Pull right paddle (upshift)
-Pull left paddle (down shift)will not allow to overshift and redline :-)
No need for a clutch the computer reads your rate of throw of throttle and does it all.
Manual mode automatically defaults to neutral
if you foot is off the brake (to help save clutch.
The manual mode out of 1st is much like a clutch on a minibike/go cart (the old school ones) exept a hell of a lot more power.
-Sport mode shifts in manual mode @ 8,700rpm are bordering violent (this we like)w/ minimal rpm drop between shifts extremeley accurate and intense.
As for the cars auto mode it can be programmed to whatever plush/or firm you'd like (bear in mind the plusher the more slip and $$$$ more often for clutch plates)
Auto mode is rarely used by me "But" if the cell rings I use it once in a while.
There is a lot of contriversy on life of the clutch (about 20k on mine and works perfectly)my mechanic viewed it recently and said it looked like it hardly was worn.

Opinions differ greatly but it feels like the car is tearing up to me. I guess it is the close relation to an automatic but a mix. It does not have a firm shift like a good auto, but feels like an inexperienced standard driver is operating the car but you are driving. Just my 2 cents worth. There are probally 100's of people that love it but I prefer the stick. Billy

Driver: pulls on right paddle
Computer: a) reduces engine power, b) engages clutch, c) shifts transmission to new gear, d) releases clutch, e) restores throttle.

Driver: pulls on left paddle
Computer: A) reduces engine power, b) engages clutch, c) blips throttle (360), d) shifts to lower gear, d) releases clutch, e) restores throttle.

In the step where the computer releases the clutch, it carefully times the speed at which the clutch passes through the friction zone.

Its just a computer controlled manual transmission

Hi, I've been reading a lot of what guys have been posting about the F1 tranny. I hear pro's and con's about it. I have never driven a F1 before. Would anyone like to explain to me the basics of how to operate one? Thanks.
