Yeah, come on! I need to hear soon or I'll have to get a set of Michellin's. I've got dry rot on my current tires which I think are originals (1985).

Frank,
The OEM metric tires were Michelin TRXs.
However, Michelin wasn't the only company that
made TR style tires, almost all the major mfgs.
made TR tires for a few years. Now only Coker and Avon make them.

Coker buys Michelin TRXs from a special low volume facility in Michelin France. Original molds, compound, etc. And they're pricey...

Avon still makes TR style tires using a fairly modern design. Their CR28s were the ones that fit the 308s. Looks like Cooper tire has now stopped importing the Avons. I just went to the Avontyre web site & did a search for the CR28s. They're still there. Called a couple of local tire dealers & got the same 'no longer imported' line.

What we need is a UK connection...

Hmm, maybe someone should try contacting Superformance.uk to see if they'd be willing to broker some...

Right, I am stuck with TRXs, it was just the Avon price differential that I was hoping to get. Coker has the TRXs for $269, Tirerack, the Michellin's for $207. Verell had gotten a line on Avon's for just $136, a much more agreeable price. What gets me is that these aren't modern, high performance, super fast rated tires, just ones that fit old wheels.

Hi..........

Don't understand one thing. If you have TRX wheels, you must use TRX tires....no ??!!

Check out:

www.cokertire.com

and use the keyword search function with "TRX".

According to several tire sources Avon tires are no longer available in the States and haven't been for over a year. I'll have to go with the Michellins. I'll most likely go the 16" wheel route next time, although having a set of 390 wheels collecting dust in the garage bugs me.

BTW, I looked on their website and the CR28 is no longer listed, there is an alternate, but it is much taller aspect ratio (65).

Verell Boaen posted this (it's in the Archive through June 30, 2003 section, same subject) info about Avon tires for the 308:
"Thanx to Rick Reid, FerrariList members get a good price on AVON TRX tires from Belle Tire in Ohio. Contact: Mark Redmond - Salesman,
Phone: 440-735-0800
Cell Phone: 330-416-8210
I bought a set for my 308 QV last spring. The prices then were: AVON CR28 Tires: 220/55R380 93V $136.81 ea + $42 shipping. Tell Mark you're a FerrariList member, and mention my & Rick's names as referring you to him. Mark is on the road a lot. This Belle Tire dealer specializes in truck tires, don't be confused by that when they answer the phone. They don't stock these tires, but are willing to special order them."

I just called Belle Tire and a rep (Mark isn't with the dealer now) told me Cooper no longer imports Avon tires. I eml'd Avon asking for a current importer list. Does anyone have a line on a dealer who can order Avon tires? I checked with several local dealers and all the can order is Michellins. I don't want to get TRXs unless I have to.

Jeff Howe, do you know how we can get Avon tires, excuse me, tyres, across the pond?
