I have an 85 Euro 308 QV purchased from original owner and it has the origional rims on it. Same size all the way around, rim stamped 165 TR 390 and it has the 220/55 VR 390 Michelin tires all the way around it. |

Dave, Yup, I fimblefungered the QV sizes. You're right of course. I tend to agre that Bluemel is more Euro varient oriented. |

Saw a friend's 77 308 GTB today and he had 7.5x14 wheels, but thought they were an option that year (not sure if he had any documentation to that). I believe most of Bluemel's "facts" seem more focused on the European variants, than North American. And I am sure you mean 7x16 and 8x16 when referencing QV wheels... :-) |

Dave, Son of a gun, you never know until you bring it up! Only somewhat authotative resource I have is Bluemel's Original Ferrari V8 which lists the 7.5x14s as optional. But then again, it's known to have a few flaws. eg: It lists the 390s as Std on the GTSi/GTBis and both 6.5x14 & 7.5x14 as optional. We know that a pretty high % of the us 'i cars had 14s. Also 390s as std QVs with 7.5x16 front 8.5x16 rear as optional. This seems to be true for Euros, but just the opposite for US cars.

Verell, My 78 308 GTS(USA) came with the 7.5x14 wheels...they appeared to have been original. I have not been able to confirm, but it appeared the early 76-77 cars came with the 6.5" width, and the later 78-79 came with the 7.5" width, at least in North America...I don't think the 7.5" was an option, but they just made it the standard...but I could be all wrong on this. |

Arlie, Most likely a '79 came with 6.5x14 XWX wheels std. The 390mm TRX wheels were an option from the late '70s until the mid '80s for US cars. Almost all Euro 308s came with them during that same period, but the 14" and then 16" wheels were optional on the Euros also. To further complicate the picture, the 14" wheels had a std width of 6.5", but a 7.5" width was available also. The 7.5x14s seem to be pretty scarce as I've not encountered anyone who's actually had them. The 14" Michelin XWX tires are also becoming quite hard to find, and are as pricy as Michelin TRXes. While the Michelin TRX tires have gotten very expensive and very hard to get, the 'other' TRX 390 tires aren't all that expensive and are readily available. I bought a set of Avon CR28s for ~$145/tire including shipping a couple of years ago. Belle Tire gives FChat & Flist members a good price. (Search the archives for 'Belle Tire' and 'CR28'.) Let's avoid duplicate discussions & transfer this discussion over to the 'Current 205/70 VR 14 Tire Options?' thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/324393.html?1065223162

I know that this has been rehashed to death many times before, but I can't find the answer buried deep in the tech archives. What years did a 308 have those goofy, expensive, metric tires on them from the factory? And what was the original wheel and tire size for a 1979 308? Am I correct in my thinking that the 308 had a 205/70R-14 tire and wheel from 77 thru 79, and then they went to the goofy metric tire and wheel from 80 thru 83? I'm researching info about a 79 308, and want to verify exactly what tires and wheels it actually HAS on it, versus what it SHOULD have on it to avoid those expensive metric tires.
