I first noticed the tight streering on my 328 when i got it. I put new tires on it and it is a lot easier to steer now. Yes, when the car is stopped, it takes pretty much more tension to turn the wheel than when it is rolling. Once i get the car rolling, steering is much easier. It gets getting use too.... I'm fine with it now.. Haven't heard of any retro fitted power steering for these cars, i would think doing that is asking for trouble. Unless you need the assisted steering for other reasons.... |

New steering racks are readily available from Ferrari UK. Around $800 delivered. They were out for a while, but then got them back in stock. FNA here in the States wants WAY more for a new rack. |

If those tires are the original gatorbacks, dump them quick. Absolutely deadly in the wet. I spun my 328 with those crappy tires, installed GSC's (wonderful) and now have S03's also wonderful. |

Russ, Dave, Thanks for the suggestions. In fact the other 328 that I drove before buying mine seemed to have a lighter steering effort than the several 308s that I have driven. My car currently has the old Goodyear Eagles on it, and I intend to change to Toyos or Bridgestones. I was running about 31-32 pounds when I drove it to where it will be stored for a couple of months. The dealer from whom I bought the car installed a rebuilt steering rack as part of the deal. I understand new ones are no longer available. However the same dealer failed to do an alignment after installing the rack. I believe that an alignment is an integral part of such a repair, and will insist that it be done. In fact it now looks like the passnger side has a little positive camber. When I drove the car before buying it, I didn't notice that the steering was particularly heavy. With new tires, higher pressure and an alignment, perhaps I'll notice some difference. It'll be a couple months before I know. In the future, I'll give myself more time to take care of details when I fly across the country to buy a car. |

Morrie You will also find different tire sizes, inflation pressures, types and brands all have an effect on the steering effort - that's what I've noticed. While it's certainly no '72 Buick on the parking effort, would agree with Dave to ensure your rack/linkage isn't binding. good luck rt He-man-no-power-steering Mondial driver |

Yes, crazy. Have you driven other 328's? I thought the steering on my 328 was much lighter than my previous 308. The only time I find it at all objectionable, is during parking. You may have a bad steering rack or something needs lubrication/replacement. |

My initial impression is that heavy steering while stopped is the only real obstacle to regular use of the car. Mondial Ts, and I assume 348s, have power steering. Does anyone know if any 328s have been retrofitted? Is this a really crazy idea?
