well, I installed a new gasket today (55.00 for a ruber band!!! OUCH!) and the problem is solved. The old gasket looked perfect, But it was obviously the culprit. Thanks for the replies!!!

thanks for that suggestion, I just put the car outside... I cleaned the entire area with brake cleaner, and the leak is definetly coming from around the fuel pump gasket. I'll go to FOAtlanta tommorrow, hopefully htey have my gasket in stock.

Kevin:
I experienced the same on a "full tank" and found that there are several plastic tubes/fittings near the top of the tank...associated with the vapor control system. One had broken and it was leaking down. Make sure it is the gasket you are referring to, and not one of those hoses. It's hard to imagine a sudden failure of a gasket to the extent you discribe. You'll see these plastic tubes in the very front of the engine bay, if I recall...two on the left and one more on the right. BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR IN-GARAGE WATER HEATER, FLOOD LIGHTS ETC !!!!

just bought a 97 F355 2 weeks ago, it only had 14k on the clock. I have driven the car 3k miles in the last 2 weeks. friday night I filled the gas tank all the way up and drove home (1/2 mile) immediately. I parked the car in the garage, and Sat morning my garage has a teribble fuel smell. After removing the plastic undertray, and cleaning up the fuel, it seems the slow leak is from the gasket between the fuel pump and the fuel tank. Is this common? Do I just need to replace the gasket with a fresh one? thanks...
