When I asked the tech that question he said they do this all the time without issues. I will ask what type it was specifically. I know it was not pure synthetic becasue he said it would leak out. AGIP EP 80w-90 would be my guess. Thanks-this may just be me having to adjust to a car that is now running properly w/ new clutch and engine set to spec. Maybe I am being lazy w/clutch. |

Unlike automotive motor oils, gear lubricants have specific additives that are different for each type of transmission and rear end application. There are numerous threads on people trying all sorts of different gear oils with varying results. Make sure that whatever they put in there meets the original specifications exactly. There are other concerns as newer lubricants may be corrosive to some transmissions and rear ends. The fact that one product may be mineral based, synthetic or mixed is not a factor in how the lubricant actually performs the required functions. It is the additive base in each. aehaas |

Recently had 30K service & new clutch. Dlr. switched to AGIP pet. based semi-synthetic gearbox oil. Seems like 2nd and 3rd gear synchros are "weaker" than before. Could the gear change be quicker due to the synthetic or is this "feeling" because the engine is running so much stronger that it is not falling off the revs as quickly as before. Car is running as well as it ever has in 20 yrs. of ownership but I seem to be able to beat the synchros at high revs. comments/similar experiences NE1???? thanks |
