IT RUNS!!!
Rex stopped by to show me his 308. He got the replacement shaft installed after a bit of running around to find someone who could press the old shaft out w/o destroying the bearing and/or it's retaining plate. KTR to the rescue!
(I've gotta get to KTR & meet those guys, they're popping up a lot these days.)

Anyway, Rex had a grin from ear-to-ear!!
Any, Thanks James for coming up w/the shaft!

RobertGarven,
I thought that was you. Shouldn't be sorry, I screwed up & didn't get my bid in.

I agree that you just about stole them, but then I was trying to do the same thing & blew it.

Verell,

I bought the distributors. I have to be honest I have been spending so much money on my car lately. I bought them to rebuild them and resell them on e-bay. I bought a distributor machine and I am in the process of getting it going. I sometimes get good deals on e-bay sometimes very bad but I think I paid about half of what they are worth. I am thinking when I mechanically and cosmetically restore them I will sell them. They were missing a few parts so I am looking for them now.

Sorry, Hope your friend gets his car going soon.

Rob

Steve,
I've been discussiong the machine shop options you mentioned with Rex. They are possibilities.

However, I just got email from a FChat member saying he had a shaft at a very reasonable price, so it looks like we may have a solution.

Take the old shaft to a machine shop and either have them weld and return the shaft or use it to make a new one. Should only take a hour or two to do.

Mine were out and wandering the US for rebuild.
During that time I found 2 new units at Ferrari of Atlanta, $850.00 each at that time.

My friend was bidding on them, but dropped out too soon.

I had an auto bid set up for about $75 more than they went for, but forgot & shut my computer down as I was out for the weekend(sigh).

The pair went for something like $302 which isn't cheap, but since then a new shaft has been quoted at $350... My friend just wasn't expecting that kind of a price (Which is why I was intending to bid - was going to second guess him.)

Those are sold. They were listed by Chat member "navygakman" Stewart Chung, a good friend of mine.

There was a post last week here about Ebay site that had two distributers used and two seats.

Don't have info. Anyone else remember?

I don't remember the "cheap" part!

Hello,
I'm looking for a distributor shaft for a '78 308 to help friend get his car back on the road.
Darnedest thing, snapped right in two in the middle for no apparent reason.

Thought I'd ask to see if someone someone might have a bad distributor lying around that they'd part with cheap.
