Verell: It's a CorelDraw v7 file (I've got up to v9 here), so you won't be able to read it with v4. CorelDraw 7 will only create "back versions" to v5. However, if/when you need it, I can output it also as a .AI file which your Corel may be able to import.

What I did was take a Ferrari logo I'd done a long time ago and resize it slightly to match, and then for the UFI, I hand drew it over the bitmap and tweaked it. I then took the closest font I had for the other various text, sized it, converted it to curves, then hand tweaked it to match the slightly different lettershapes. Took me about 90 minutes overall.

Wow Mike,
That's cleaned up & straightened beautifully!
What software did you use to process it?

Now if I can just find my wife's CorelDraw CD.
(BTW, what version of CorelDraw did you use?)
I think our CD is something like version 4.

I've taken Verell's scan, and have transformed it from a bitmap to a scaleable vector image, which is what sign-cutters prefer. It can be resized to almost any dimension with no loss of quality. I have it as a CorelDraw image if anyone needs it. Verell now also has a copy.

Jerry-

Looks like Verell just gave it to you.

You can have an RTA made and ask the sign maker not to 'weed' it for you (the sign maker can explain that to you, if you don't know what I'm talking about).

Once you get the RTA transfer, weed it yourself, and apply the negative portion (the piece that would normally be thrown away, to your airbox.

I had a 'brain fart', and I can't think of the name of what you end up with, other than a template.

It's like what is on shipping crates; a 'template' is put on the crate, and spray painted, and a positive image remains.

I hope I'm making myself somewhat clear!

Apply the 'negative' to the airbox, and spray with the correct white paint.

After you've done this, you can spray the airbox with a matte finish polyurethane, to protect your newly restored airbox.

If you have no idea of what I'm talking about, email me personally, and I'll provide you with my phone #.

I can explain the process better verbally, than I can emailly! :-)

Re-read my post below. Here's a shrunk negative of the high-res image I mentioned:

Jerry-

WHY; if it's not correct, why do it?

Scan the correct screen from an air box cover and take it to a sign shop; they can produce an exact RTA for you.

Jerry,
I scanned in my cover for another member - Bill Wilke. The cover's artwork is still in pretty good shape, so the scanned image started out pretty good.

Bill spent some time touching it up & made a silk screen from the touched up file.

I've got a copy of Bill's touched-up file, It still needs some work to crispen up the edges & get a few stray pixels out of the middle before it's really high quality. If you want a copy of the file you can have it with the requirement that Bill & I get back a copy of your cleaned up version.

BTW, by mid-winter I should be setup to do powder coating. (My wife wonders why I agreed to her getting a new kitchen range so easily- LOL). I've got everything I need except for cleaning space out of the garage & wiring up the old range. Even have a bottle of wrinkle black powder!

Thanks for all the info -

Eric - That looks real good.

Tom - I like the idea of the core exchange, just gotta figure out if it's worth 239.95 to me.

Philip - Can you give me any more info on the negative decal you had made? Have any pictures?

Thanks!

Hi, Ken--they tend to disappear because the wire screen on the decklid comes into contact with the area on the air box where the logo is. I would guess that the ones that hold up don't touch the screen, due to decklid adjustment. By the way, how's your QV coming along?

Why does the logo disappear? I have seen cars with 20K miles with no logo, and other cars with 50K miles and they still have the original logo.

Thanks Tod...yes, it's just reflective decal vinyl (don't remember the mil). After a year and a half, it looks brand new...and holds up just fine to routine cleaning and polishing. Will probably last a long time -- but, if not, I have a couple more sitting in the drawer .

Several F-Chatters e-mailed and requested a copy of the logo file. Some even scaled it down a tad bit more before having the decals cut.

Was a lot easier and quicker than silkscreen, hand painting, or sending it off. The concours judges might frown a bit .

just an idea but how about appling a decal and clear coating it with a high temp paint. i have seen high temp engine paint in clear. you can mask off the box so you dont get it where you dont want it. it may help keep the decal in place and look shiny as well. i have done this on my muscle cars with great results. cheers michael

Eric,
That looks AWESOME! Is that just a decal/vinyl lettering?? I have a friend too that does that stuff and i was thinking of just using the negative vinyl as a template to paint the logo on.

How is yours holding up ???

Mine is worn off too, but paying over $200 for a logo is a little assesive i think... I thought about a decal, but i don't think it would stay too long, the housing has a wrinkle paint on it which may not let a decal stick too well, plus the heat too???

I was considering making a template and getting some high temp white paint and try fixing it myself. If i screw it up, then i can send it to Italian car parts... HAH...

Another option is to have your own decal made.

The original logo was silkscreened onto the air box, and this is basically how Ital. Car Parts does the restore for you (in addition to stripping and repainting the box with crinkle black).

What I did with mine was to create an Adobe Illustrator vector file of the logo, scale it to size, copy it to a disc, and bring it over to my local sign guy. He cut several copies of the logo on a very durable heat resistant reflective white adhesive backed vinyl. Best part was he didn't charge me anything since I did him a file conversion favor. So, I simply pasted one onto the air box and reinstalled in the car. Looks fine, and it reflects through the top decklid grill in the dark when street lights, etc. shine on it.

It'll do until I decide whether or not to have it fully restored by ICP. Here's a pic...

If you do a search in the archives for air box, etc., you'll find quit a bit of past discussion about this that might be helpful to you.

Jerry,
All i've heard of is a core exchange deal offered by Italian Car Parts for 239.95. www.ItalianCarParts.Com. 503-655-9811.

I've never heard of a decal.

Anyone know where I can pick up a decal for the Air Filter on a 87 328? The old white logo atop the black filter has worn off. I heard there are details that can fix that - Anyone seen them?
