Thouroughly clean the engine bay connectors that are just ahead of the top side of the left side shock absorber. Use a contact cleaner and a stiff brush, or even a brass bristle brush. I've repaired at least 2 cars where this was the only problem, just as you describe. You might want to use Stabilant 22 on the connector after it dries.

It has 2 Dinoplex boxes. Not positive on an 81, but they should be in the left side of the trunk floor, under the carpet and a panel. They're notorious for water getting into the area and corroding the terminals. If you find that's the problem, after cleaning the terminals, pack some silicone grease around the connectors and wires before replacing the rubber boots. |

1981 Ferrari 308 GTBi Symptom: The rear bank of cylinders will stop firing for either 1 second to 30min at a time. Related Symptom: Cats get RED hot from trying to catalyze the unburnt fuel. What I have checked: It looks like there is a 20Hz timing signal [at idle] on both the Yellow and Green timing wires (Green is for the rear bank). So there must be some piece of hardware or bad connection between the timing test point and the coils. I have a spare set of coils as well, but have not yet installed them. My guess is that the 1981 308 has a black box timing advance module somewhere in the vehicle. Either this box is bad, or one of the connections at the box is faulty. Questions: Is there a timing advance box? Where in the car is it? Any other ideas or suggestions?
