Thanks Hans and Mark. I assume its the diff oil, since its a 75W90, which is what the OM specifies in the AGIP. I wonder why the Service Mgr at the local GM store couldn't locate it? Jim

C5 Corvettes use non synthetic Dextron III ATF in their manual gearbox. The differential uses a synthetic 75W-90 weight gear oil GM part # 12378261- not cheap. C-4 corvettes use a 5W-30 weight manual transmission fluid- GM part # 1052931 in the ZF 6 speed gearbox.

Late model Corvettes use # 12378261 75W90 differential grease. It's a synthetic, designed for limited slip differentials. There is no other tech info available, so I have no idea whether it's suitable for transaxles containing syncromesh transmissions. Doesn't even specify whether it's GL-5 (probably), GL-4, or ???? Expensive: $29.02 list per quart, could probably be had for a few bucks less.

GR8800 is in reference to the "group number" that all 'generic' GM service parts are found in the parts manual. Group 8800 contains nuts, bolts, glass cleaner, motor oil, etc. So, by itself, GR8800 means nothing.

I know that GM sells several gear oils, some of which are VERY expensive. I'll check into this and get back.

I have been told that GM/Corvette Gear Oil GR8800 is the best viable (locally available) substitute for AGIP oil spec for my '91 TR transaxle (by Service Mgr at Continental Motorsports). They can't ship oil products. The GM dealer in town can't get me some without a year/model to look up in his mega-servicemanual. Anybody know this factoid?
