ES: The warranty is the emissions warranty required by law in the USA. FNA has to back it up, but only if the car came in the country via the proper channels, through FNA in the first place. Euro cars do not have this benefit.

Are the warranty offered by Ferrari itself? Worldwide or just by local dealer? 8 years?
Cause my "slow down" light just started to flash, may be i have the same problem, cos my 355 is running as normal without any problem.

That scanner is awesome... it seems to be totally compatible with the 355... no issues, plug in and run... and only 159 at autozone. They also had a 400 unit, it actually was my first pickup, and it would give a readout like what the actron one does. It actually gives a code and an accurate description! Anyway, my 2 cents worth. Thanks again

Glad you found out what was wrong, and thanks for the tip on the scanner. Been looking for one for a while, and glad to see it worked with no problems.
Good luck on the sensor

I just ran the code in mine, I guess I am lucky, I just had an 02 sensor cause my issue. I just ordered one, so hopefully that will cure it. I didnt realize that the cats were under warranty. Are you sure? That is a little peace at mind the more i read here... I bought an actron scan tool from autozone, 150.00$, works great! Car did have to be running, but works great! Thanks for everyones help here.

My check engine light just came on a few days ago, I scanned it myself, (the car has to be running to use a scan tool). and found it was BOTH cats setting the light! BTW, I only have 18k miles, '97 355. Good thing that emissions related components (i.e. the cats) have a federal mandated 8 years or 80k miles warranty! Hurray! I'll be at the dealership monday morning getting it done for free....

Todd, I had my cat go out at 7K miles, so it is not out of the realm of possiblity. Depending on sources, the O2 sensors range from $150-180 each, and there are 4 of them. But it is best to get a proper diagnosis before shooting in the dark. Besides, even if you do replace the sensors (assuming that is the problem), you still have the pesky check engine light on until it is reset.

Sources for O2 sensors range from Bosch suppliers as Steve mentioned, or dealers.
I called a few dealers, and you will be amazed at the price fluctuations they have.
I have had positive experiences with Algar's part department, as well as Wide World of Cars, but I'm sure there are others.

Todd - Check if they are Bosch brand and if the Bosch 10 digit PN is stamped on the outside somewhere -- if so, I might have some relevant information on sourcing.

Any good resource for O2 sensors? 4 I believe? How much should they cost, mnot so much an issue, but want to be wise in purchase of such.

Would it be a safe or not at least not hurt anything to change the o2 sensors? They look relatively easy to change. How serious is it if that is the case? Do not drive it? Just looking at cost / dealer service / mainly dealer location location / pain...

The cats surely are ok at 7k miles, no??

ACTUALLY AS JOE STATED..I WAS GOING TO LEAD TO THE O2 SENSERS AND CATS, BUT YOUR DEALER SHOULD CHECK IT OUT FOR YOU...SCANNERS ARE NOT AS TECHED UP AS THE DEALERS HAVE, SO DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY

GOOD LUCK,

Todd, after checking the obvious, the most common cause of a CE light on a 355 is 1) O2 sensor(s)
2) catalytic converter(s)

If the car is running fine, I would bet it is one of those two problems.

With the diagnostic system on the '96 and up cars (OBD2), the light will come on for even the slightest problems. Generally (depending on the code) it stays on until it is reset.
One may reset it with a generic scan tool, but you will not get an accurate diagnosis without the Ferrari dealer's SD1 scanner.

It had a major but not by a dealer. It was done by euro racing shop, they hit all the high points, belts, tensioners, fluids, etc. I am going to check connectors, etc under the hood, etc.

Ok guys dont pound me, but I have a 97 with the check engine light that came on on the way up the interstate this a/m. I have read here and there looking, but nothing definitive. Can i get a scanner to check it? I am in the middle of NO WHERE in Indiana, and trying to figure out what to do with it. It seems to run fine, no issues, just that light. Any help or ideas what to do about it in the middle of the country would be appreciated.

Todd
