I had the exact same alternator problem on my GT4. I have prevented any future problems by reorienting the heat shield (back of alternator) and it is now mounted on 3 legs instead of 4, giving the hot terminal a wide berth. Jay |

hey Kermit, i'm taking a drive today since the weather let up! if i go more than a week w/out hearing that engine and driving, i go into withdrawls. hey i left out something more important than my silly drip; preasure. we all have our minds on the top side of the pistons; compression, rings, intake, exhaust, heat, etc. well, the bottom side of the piston also creates compression/preasure, on the moving parts in the crank case. these KrankVents lower that pressure; which saves us from going wankle. hey Dave, i checked out the site, it's great! thanks for the invite. would love to hook up for a drive with ya'll. hey, will be co-hosting a Brizilian show on 91.3FM, 2-4pm today. if you're listen or any other ferrari folks, call in! |

I thank you for the kind words Larry. I know that the KV's do create vacuum, and would no doubt do exactly what they did. It got ya on your way, and that is what counts! On the Topic of KV's, I'm still awaiting cams for the motor that will be dynoing them, it hasn't been forgotten. Frank Capo was good enough to put a set on his schedule for us, but as racing season goes,sh*t happens fast, and he ended up a lot more swamped than we all thought, so it will be a bit yet. Raceing is like that, one dominoe falls, and ya try to catch up! BTW: The site is still under construction, so be patient. Thanks. |

Haven't been to Wreck Beach, but will probably start "exploring" out that way more...my girlfriend works at the library branch on Dunbar, in that neighborhood. Larry you need to start coming out to the local FCA events and drives. We have one of the most active chapters, though we are coming into the "slow" season... You can check our calendar at www.ferrariclub.com Hope to see you at something! Dave

Dave, we haven't met. been to Wreak beach? Peter, i did, correct number, it fit, though light still on. pulled the alt and it tested very srong. the guy told me to check alt light wire which is the smaller of the two that just plugs into alt. found it had been frayed near the starter. replaced and alt. light is out. thank you very much, battery is charging. |

wasn't going to post this until i saw results so here goes. Sunday AM; 4 weeks back i'm heading to Van. BC. from Seattle. no traffic, i take up the little 75 gt4 to 6000rpm for about a mile then, lose all power. i lift and power comes back on; BOOM goes spent fuel. blood preasure drops so tried again only this time it it kills out at 5500rpm. i lift, power comes back on. BOOM! i'm about ten miles from durable 1. putt my way up there keepin it at 3000rpms; figured i could have a good look w/out an, "audience" and 20 questions. get there @ 9:00; 20 min. later and i've found nothing then, Kermit shows up. he's doing some R & D on a Sunday! i get him in for a sample power outage. 4500rpms nothing, 5000 nothing. run out of road so, we get on I5 and hit 5500; power outage, i lift, juice comes back on, BOOM! only this time we're smelling flames! i pull off, Kermit grabs my exstinguisher, i pop the lid and he puts his hands in the flames which are coming from the alternator area. after a few sprays flames go out then, flames come back again, another squirt puts it out for good. what a heart stopper; i'am so lucky he was w/me! had my share of carb fires but this was new and i freaked. TWO things caused this; (1)heat shield on this alternator has 4 brakets that go onto studs from alt., then nuts tighten it in place. a braket weld finally gave on shield, nut comes loose, bracket drops near main cable and arcs out under heavy load. (2)had a weep from the valve cover gasket. (another story) 4000 miles on rebuild (that week) i change to synthetic. weep turns to drip; right onto alt. cable. arcing and oil not a good thing. back at shop; clean mess, replace torched cable, which was the hot one btw. heat shield back on, less one bracket. but i still have a drip and no valve cover gaskets. Kermit turns me on to these KrankVent fittings for my valve covers. he had a cut away which was amazing engineering. a simple idea; a diaphram if you will, to help create a vacuum in motor/crank case. it's put the drip back to a weep which i can live w/till the 6000 mile valve adjustment. (new valve cover gaskets) i urge everyone to check out the durable1.com web sight. i did for the first time this week and was in ah; i want it all. this guy thinks of everything! Thanks Kermit for saving a Ferrari and, gettin me back on the road. i caught the last 80 degree day at my favorite Vancouver beach. Larry |
