Hey Billy Bob,
Yes, finally is right. Been waiting for the right car to pop up for the past 4 years (talk about being patient) Weknow how to fix these things pretty well, it will be fun, I'll hit you up for some "tips and tricks" when needed.

I have located a few good used chin spoilers and NEW reproduction QV 16" wheels in England.

I doubt this car will see the track, at least in the near future. I have made my car much much much faster since the last time you saw it. It's hard to get me out of it. I plan to take the car out on weekend drives with other Ferrari's. Plus I think it's more fun to pick off new 360's and Vette's in my little 4 cyl. Alfa! See you around. I'll post pictures by the end of the weekend.

Anthony,

I'm glad you actually did it! I am sure you and dad know a huge amount about these cars but I had a '79 and spent huge number of hours under it. If you need a hand I've rebuilt motors and gearboxes on these cars. You must get the deep chin spoiler. It is a way superior look. I ran 16's and lowered the car and had way less trouble than with the 348 totally stock. The length of the nose to front tire is shorter on the 308's so the departure angles are better. You won't have that much trouble with the driveways and speed bumps. You can get QV wheels that are OEM Ferrari but if you buy aftermarket BBS wheels that was an option put on by dealers ( see page 56 Ferrari 308 1974-1979 by booklands books) they are 3 piece and you can get different lips to play all the games with tire combos especially since you will get on the track with this car some day...right? I'm happy you got into a Ferrari! I have some 308 books I'll give you next time I see you at the track. I just cleared my garage of all my last 308 stuff..darn I would have just given it to you. I say if you don't really need new tires yet forget the 14" wheels unless you have a real reason to stay totally stock. The car is way better looking and handles infinately better on 16's. I ran 245 50 16 rear and 225 45 16 front with no body rub. Check out the So Cal section of this board. Join up with Byron's FDC group. There is a mix of street guys and track guys. Tell him Billybob sent you. I've been meaning to join more street events with the mondial cab but have no time since I've been traking the 348 somehting always comes up with it. Last week at WSIR I blew a tire just after turn 3 and almost lost it. I was on my 4th lap and that ended my day. So I bought some new wheels and tires in hopes they come fast enough for me to go play on the 24th at streets. If you have time for that day there should be a couple more F-cars out there and it will be very low key I think...not real race cars so it would be a good break in drive for the 308...that thread is in the so cal section too. Besides it would be neat to see you blow the doors off modern Ferrari or corvette with a 25 year old 308 on street tires.

Thanks for the lead on the air dam, I will give them a call next week since they also have European bumpers and grille which I am also interested in.

I think I am going to go with the Michelin Pilot XGT H4 tires. 215/60HR14 up front and 225/60 HR14 in the rear. I wish I could find something with a higher speed rating, but I doubt I will go 130 in the car, at least for a really long time. The stock 205/70 tire is 25.4" tall and the 215/60 is 24.1" and the 225 is 24.9". What tires are you guys with 14" wheels running? I think I will go with this set up until I can locate a set of 16" QV wheels.

You can get a Euro front air dam(not damn, cus we don't swear here ), here: http://www.italianauto.com/page4.html

As far as the 14" wheels, you're pretty well stuck with the standard tyres. Buy a set of 16" QV rims, then you can play around with tyre sizes.

By the way, welcome to Chat and the Brotherhood!

Welcome to GTB ownership. If you want to change your tires there are not a lot of tire options for the 14" wheel. Change to 16" wheels and you can put low profile tires on that will look and perform great. Do a search as there is tons of information on this floating around.

I can't give you any leads on the deep chin spoiler however I'm sure someone here will be able to help out.

Ok, I just picked up a 1979 308 GTB, red/black, 67K miles. I actually get it tomorrow night.

I am going to need tires for the car and was wondering what tire size is good for the 14" wheel. I would like to go wider on the rear and lower profile all the way around and still look good. The car is stock height and I am not sure if I will lower it at the moment.

Another thing I would like is the lower front air damn. I realize how low it is and am willing to crawl into driveway's in exchange for it's look. Does anyone know of any for sale and how much the going rate is for this part?

I will post pictures of the new toy by the end of the weekend. Looking forward to meeting up with some of you on weekend drives.

Anthony
