Charles, that is the wheel sizes. All four tires on a BB512i are the same size, Michelin TRX 240/55 VR 415. |

I only want the original wheels and tires to have if I ever want to sell or concours the car. I am just a little OCD and feel that I should have them. The car drives great with the Goodrich T/A's that are on the car but I also like the look of the Michelins. I called Coker and they are clueless as to the metric tires for this car. Maybe I was asking for the wrong #'s. I understood them to be 210TR15415 rear and 180TR415 front. Is this the case and can anyone give me another suggestion on where to find them.If these are not the correct #,s could someone fill me in so I can tell Coker the correct ones. Thanks for all the reinforcement on my choice of the Boxer I am lovin it. Yesterday my friend and I drove each other cars cause he thinks of getting a BBi. He has a 355 and 360,I drov the 360 boy that is some car. I really love the way it drives but it is a little too modern for my taste. To Erik I live in Englishtown,NJ. Also I am looking for original steering wheel and radio, also just to have. My car has a Fittipaldi wheel, I think from an F-40. Thats what I was told anyway. Thanks again |

Dave, the TRX tires for the BB512i are still being made by Michelin and can be bought from Coker Tire for less than $300 per tire. The TRX tires perform on par with the rest of the car's 70s/80s era suspension and handling. Plus, they look better in my opinion and are correct for concours reasons. If you want a track car, a Boxer is not a good choice anyway. |

Charles Congrats on owning a Boxer. You made the correct choice, in my opinion. I am at a loss as to why you would want TRX wheels and tires, except to have the original parts if you ever sell and correctness for concours. It is my understanding that the metric tires are very hard to find and not very good compared to modern day tires. Much has been written about the availability of tires for older Ferraris. I looked worldwide for 225-70 VR15's for the rear and couldn't find any. I ended up with one size up Goodyears and they are not very good. OK for cruising but not much else. I will probably go to Speedline for their compatible wheels, [you supply the centers from your wheels], and can fit modern high performance tires for the track, etc. I just finished a full engine and gearbox rebuild, along with a new dash recover. If I can help you at all, contact me on "[email protected]" |

P.S. Do the wheels that are on the car have any value if I want to sell them to finance the purchase of the original wheels? The wheels on the car are in brand new condition. THanks Charlie |

Thanks guys,I am aware of the incorrect wheels. I now own the car and am in the process of obtaining the original wheels which were sold by a previous owner. I also know that the buyer from Altanta turned the car owver for a quick buck. Timing favored him, I had to sell my e type before buying the Ferrari and hadnat sold it yet. I gave him the profit because I still felt it was a great car and was told buy a previous owner that the car was worth every penny I was paying. I got the car today and believe he was right. I do plan on growing old with this car. I drove it for the first time today and smiled my brains out. It did not really seem hot to me at all so those fears have been put to bed. Thanks again for all your input. I continue to spend hours on F-chat sucking up great info and just having fun. F..erarri=F..un in my book. Charlie |

charles, i also have a boxer and prior to buying my car, i also considered a tr. the tr was actually less expensive and i was considering bang for the buck...the tr is alot of car for the money! the bbi won out in what turned out to be a no contest decision. the boxer is simply an astounding machine that speaks "ferrari" like few other red cars and while more expensive than tr's, will be the next real ferrari to appreciate...they are really the last of the boutique ferraris. buy it and do like dave f....grow old with it and watch it get better and better each year!! mine was bought as a keeper. a quick /?observation, the bbi in the picture appears to have non metric wheels. looks like daytona 9" in the rear. does anyone else see this? if this is the case, please ask for the trx wheels/tires also. if not available, get some price consideration. and oh yes...my car has just had a new a/c compressor and while it works ok, it is tough to stay ahead of that big raked windshield in the summer. good luck w/ your purchase...boxers are big boy ferraris! |

Charles, I was interested in the same car when it was on eBay less than a month ago. A buyer in Atlanta won the auction and paid $69K, which was a very good deal considering the complete Tubi system and recent 30K servicing. Is he selling it already? He must be looking for a quick buck on the turnover? |

I guess someone needs to speak up for the TR so I will. I love my TR and this summer when it was 105 degrees outside I was as cool as a cucumber in my TR. My car has had the compressor changed out and has been converted to the new refrigerant. It is a very fun car to drive and own. I've never driven a 512BB so I can't compare the two for you. |

The windshield on a Boxer will actually get hot to the touch from the hot air flowing out of the radiator over the front of the car. I don't notice any heat coming from the floorboards from the water lines passing underneath though. My a/c keeps mine comfortable though even in hot Georgia summers, although not as good as a German or Japanese car. |

Thanks for all your input. I am convince and have made the first steps to buying this 83 BBi. it has 13,000 original mile and stayed in a climate controled garage for 15 years then received a full mechanical resto including engine out suspension etc. I will go from NJ to Alanta to check it out and make final arrangements. I am very excited. Pics included. I guess this is Boxer tiem. Thanks again for your input.

Thanks Norm, I live outside of Rochester, as well... Mendon, to be specific. Had her out this afternoon, as the driving days around here are starting to get slim. Drop by one day...and check her out up close, or we can meet for coffee somewhere. Regards, David |

The radiators for the Boxer are in the front to catch cooling airflow. The hot and "cold" water lines between radiator and engine run through the passenger compartment. Also, as Jim mentions the exhausted hot air from the radiators goes right past the windows. BIG windshield due to rake sucks in sunshine. Not a big deal, if the A/C is working well. Good summary from Forza Buyer's Guide (Feb 98) at http://www.theautochannel.com/publications/magazines/forza/number9/pg30.frame Also, if you have access to Ferrari Market Letter back Vol 22, issue #11 (1997), Dyke Ridgeley has a good article titled "Can we stop bashing Boxers now?" As I recall, Dyke directly addresses this 'hot Boxer" issue. Someone has borrowed my back issues, so I apologize for not having this one. |

Wow, David beautiful picture of your boxer. Where in Upstate are you located? I am in Rochester. Sorry, never owned one, but I have a huge bias toward the Boxer over the TR. What a cleaner and still spectacular design. |

Lots of advice found here; worth what you pay for it. 1) Boxer versus TR - Boxer. More likely to maintain and/or rise in value. Different kind of car. TR is more high speed cruising. Boxer more race-bred. Neither particularly "understated." I find myself driving the Boxer almost daily. I have to remember to go start the Testarossa once in a while. 2) Hot? Well...Some like it hot! If the air conditioning has been TOTALLY restored (drained, new compressor, filter/dryer, hoses, etc.) then the unit will put out sufficient cool air to maintain comfort. Anything less than optimum AC performance and you are better off with the windows open. Remember to close your vents when running with AC on. The most interesting aspect (from my perspective) is the hot air that flows over the car from the forward-mounted radiator. You can place your hand outside the window and feel the hot air stream. It gets more pronounced (better defined) and hotter as you increase speed. This pushes the hot air stream closer to the car. Windows closed eliminates this source of heat. Go with the Boxer. Jim S. |

Hi guys, I am brand new to Ferrari chat and am in the process of buying an 83 BBi. Someone told me that the cockpit gets unbearably hot. Is this true? I have never actually driven a BBi but just sitting in one made me wet my pants so must have it. I have found a good one but have been hesitating. Also considered TR. Any advice? |
