matt -- I'm not directly 328-experienced, but I too would think that they are completely independent systems. One problem though is like Julio V. said in his thread -- you've probably wiggled a bunch of connectors in the process. If you've checked/reseated the various connectors in the area that you've been working and it still won't fire then go back to the basics -- put a timing light on it during cranking to confirm the ignition is present; if so, check that the supply fuel pressure comes up to a reasonable value, etc....

I just purchased a 1987 328 GTS (US Spec). It's got 22k on it. I found it in the UK and brought it over last month...a very arduous task. Anyway, I have a mechanic, and he did a basic tune up. After that it's been running really well. I put about 200 miles on it this weekend without a problem. It was starting immediately and running great. I drove it to work today without issue as well. Had the emissions completed at lunch, and it passed just fine. When I was driving home I heard a new noise, it sounded a little like a hole in the muffler. So, I started looking and noticed that the front check valve on the air injection was cracked in half just below the part that screws on. I dug in and got it out of the hose in order to get a replacement part. With the hose disconnected, I decided to start the car to move it to better lighting and it cranked and made a normal starting noise, but it never started. Does it make sense that removing this valve would effect the car starting, or did I just flood it or something? And, what do you do when you flood one of these babies? It just seems strange as it started really nicely, and ran perfect, all day without any issue until I removed that part. Thanks - Matt
