Dale: Sorry, those pics are over a year old. The engine is already in the car, and the car's being driven now. In the car, with all the air manifolds and air cleaner housing, it looks pretty much like any other TR engine, just cleaner. :-)

Rick: The sivler is paint....the factory painted the blocks so that's what I did. Although the factory "silver" is more of a natural satin finish....I was not able to find anything like it. Just like the silver-gray crinkle paint on the intakes...can't get that either! So my car will be more "tarted up" than original, but it's not a conours car anyhow. Be sure to use a zinc based primer on aluminum as it greatly increases the adhesion.

Oh, crap. I'm anal about cars too. Mine (308 turbo) started with an oil leak, led to a turbo rebuild, became a turbo replace now is a posible engine overhaul. I can't imagine taking the engine out to do a service not detailing at the same time. I hope to start mine soon. I would like to finnish inside of a year. Money and finding parts may be what holds me up the most. I plan on taking my time, this will be my first Ferrari engine overhaul and I may along the way decide to go N/A. So add new exhaust and componets to the list. GREAT JOB on your TR! Looks awesome, I hope to be there some day with my Black 308 GTBiT. Is that silver engine paint or refinished al?
Thanks for your feedback.

Rick: I started this in July due to an oil leak out of the front main seal. The oil was leaking out onto the cam belts and being "slung" around...this is a No-No! So I decided to change the seal, cam belts, and tensioner bearings only. Well....one thing led to another. A friend of mine who is also "anal" about cars told me not to start detailing. Because once you do a certain portion, the area right next to it, that may have been acceptable earlier, now looks terrible. That is good advice. Once I started I just couldn't stop. Thank Goodness I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Jeff,
Can I ask what started you on this project and when did you start? I want to do the same with my 308.
Thanks for sharing! Rick

Thank You to Eric, George, Dale, Ernie, Russ, and Jim !!!!!!!! It's nice to know that someone besides me will appreciate the many hours (and dollars, and part searching) of work that I'm spending on this project. I never expected to do every nut and bolt, but once started.....well....there you go!

Mitchell Le: The brass color is actually a combination of gold paint and yellow anodizing spray. I was not able to find a new set of fuel distributor lines for a "reasonable" price, so I cleaned and polished mine, and then sprayed and baked them. I'm surprised it turned out so well.

Carmine Nicoletta: I doubt of those little rubber boots are available seperately. I suggest getting some heat shrink tube and simply covering over your existing boots. That appears to be what the factory did.

Again, Thanks to all of you for being so positive. I doubt I would have kept going if not for the support of this great board and terrific people. Last night I assembled the top plenums and a few other odds and ends. Tonight will be the AC Compressor and Alternator. I'll post more pics when I'm finished.....if I ever am!

Man oh man Jeff

What a project this has turned out to be. I must say that your engine looks fantastic. I can only imagine the hours and hours you have spent cleaning it. Keep up the good work.

Ric, Jeff

Are these rubber boots available without replacing the entire wire harness? I have a few of these that are cracked.

It's getting closer, but the little things seem to take the most time. Still many details to complete....but wanted to share my progress with my "family". If anyone orders the Gates green stripe hose....do it from an industrial supplier like McMaster-Carr. It is half the price of an automotive supplier! I'm very disgusted to discover this....but it's too late for me. So please be warned. Upload
