Well, Try pulling the dash & checking the ignition fuse would be 1st thing. Next would be to use the schematic in your owner's manual & see if you're getting ~12V to your coils & ignition electronics. (A light bulb test is good enough, doesn't have to be a meter.)

Me again. I have quickly become addicted to this board. I looked this up in the archives but found nothing helpful. As I have mentioned, I just purchased an 87 328 GTS. It has 22k on it and hasn't been driven much. I have a mechanic in SC (140 miles away) who did basic tune up including belts and plug wires. I picked up the car on Sunday and it was running great. However, after driving it again on Monday, I heard a puffing sound, kind of like when you have leak in the exhaust, so I looked in the engine compartment and noticed that one of the air injection safety valves had cracked in half, I used the archives here and found a part number and instructions to replaced the faulty valve. After removing the valve I tried to start the car and it wouldnt. Everything worked, and the starter sounded fine, but it wouldnt start. I then replaced the valve and tried again. It still would not start. Obviously in the process, I had to wiggle around the area quite a bit...so much so that I even accidentally pulled out plug wire #3 from the dist. cap on rear cylinder bank. I fixed that. The car still wouldnt start. Then, in speaking with my mechanic, he suggested I remove a plug and see if I am getting a spark. So I pulled a plug wire and put a spare plug in it, grounded it on the engine block and checked for a spark. There wasn't one. Maybe it wasnt ground well, but I believe it was. The starter sounds fine, I can smell fuel if I pump the gas, the fuses are intact...it just appears I am getting no spark. Prior to my meddling, the car was starting perfect and running great. I only messed around the distributor cap area and a little bit under the ignition coils, but they all seem intact. Where should I start? Help Please. |
