As Dave said, replace the sensor, it's cheap. If that doesn't solve the problem, then get into further diagnostics. I recently replaced the thermistor on one of my cars, as the oil temp. gauge was acting erratic. That solved the problem, and saved a lot of diagnostic work. Just put Veglia on the same level as Lucas; the only things that don't suck are their 'Vacuum Cleaners'! |

REMOVE THE WIRE THAT IS FROM THE SENDER TO THE GUAGE AND GROUND IT OUT. THE GUAGE SHOULD READ FULL HOT. IF IT READS FULL HOT, REPLACE THE SENDER. IF NOT YOU MAY NEED A GUAGE. |

The senders are so cheap, and likely culprit, you probably should just change it. For the 308/328/Mondial series they are $14. |

Check the sending unit wiring connections. If all appear tight, find a buddy with a working system and "borrow" his sending unit for a few minutes. Put his unit (which we know works) in your car. If the gauge now works, it's the sending unit at fault. If the gauge doesn't work, you've got a bad gauge. I'm sure you are aware that the oil temp gauge doesn't budge until after the engine has been running for quite a while. Just my $.02. Hope this helps. |

On my 512TR the oil temperature gauge never seems to move, is there an easy way to check the sender and dial, many thanks. |
